He can chip in with a few but I would rather see someone else in his position. Personally I believe you need three strikers who can get 45-50 goals between them, two regulars and one who can come off the bench and change a game. You need to hope defenders at set pieces can head you home at least 5 goals You need two midfield players who can chip in with 7-8 each This would give you a genuine chance of automatic promotion I look back at the days when we had Harte, Strachan, Speed and McCallister taking pressure off the strikers and more recently Snodgrass and Gradel. If our entire midfield net 10 goals between them this season we will be lucky.
Can't disagree with that. Btw, I was referring to this season re. Pugh. Hopefully next season we'll have better players in place.
Top two teams at present: Leicester Nugent 17 Vardy 10 Wood 5 Dyer 9 Knockeart 6 Drinkwater 5 Their defenders have also scored 10 goals between them Strikers are on course to net 45-50 Midfielders are already there Defenders double what I have said already Leicester have scored 54 goals in 30 games so they are on course for 82 goals http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/leicester-city/top-scorers Burnley Ings 24 Vokes 16 Barnes 5 Strikers are already at 45 between them Midfield 6 between them - they will fall short but the strikers are more than making up for it. Their defenders are on 6 goals between them Burnley have scored 46 goals in 30 games - That puts them on course for 70 goals by the end of the season http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/burnley/top-scorers Only my opinion and there are exceptions to the rules but I honestly believe you need at least 65-70 goals for a genuine chance of an automatic promotion None of those figures takes into account appearances, I know Ross has played every game for us, if he missed 4-5 games through an injury we would be much further down than 12th.
According to SkySports, Wood has 1 goal for the season. I doubt their strikers are gonna get another 17-22 goals between them in the rest of the season. Ings has 23 goals so far and Barnes' goals were scored at Brighton so they don't count towards Burnley's total. Burnley don't actually have another striker so can't even substitute Barnes for anyone. So they have 39 goals between them so far which means it looks likely they'll still get the 45-50 goals, they don't come close on your midfield requirements though. History tells you you don't even need a 20 goal a season striker to get out of this league, last year is a great example of this. Defence needs to be tight and if you share goals around your team it doesn't matter where they come from. We are obviously short in a fair few areas but I do think your optimistic in what you expect from the team. I do expect more than 5 goals from defenders though, how many GOOD opportunities has Pearce had to score this season, think that is where he is currently lacking.
I wouldn't wreck my head too long with stats and our current team. Suffice to say, whenever we manage auto promotion, the team that achieves it won't contain many of our current lot and well look back on just how poor/average so many of them were
Think we'll be playing at the last chance saloon under Cellino Jock. If it doesn't happen in next two seasons, it may never. However, see the progress Man City have made with a pile of cash. I know many don't want to go that way but frankly I don't care anymore. Sick of just making up numbers in the Championship to be honest
I don't care where the goals come from Josh but truth is you really do need around 70 for a chance of auto promotion. I accept there are exceptions to this, the Burnley defence are doing a great job but I am sure they will finish the season on 70 scored. Point is even if Ross had an outstanding season and netted 30 we don't have anywhere near another 35 to 40 goals in this team, something I have complained about all season.
Yea, can't argue with any of that and that is really what we need to address. Midfield does not contribute anywhere near enough
