If we hadn't scored I'm not sure MP would have appreciated Jrod going for the spectacular.

I doubt Hernandez would come to Saints. He is earning nearly double our top earner at the moment. I think we can rule Lukaku out completely. It will be an auction if Chelsea decide to sell him and with so many clubs prepared to bid it would mean his wages would be way out of our reach.

Would be great though to have either, just not that realistic unless we are planning to really go out on a limb on wages.

Just watched an hour of the match on Match Choice. We certainly played well...hard to pick out any players in particular, but Shaw and Chambers looked impressive again...so assured for their age. Feel sorry for Clyne...not getting much game time in World Cup year, but can't argue with Chambers being picked. Don't know why people are moaning about Lambert...missed chances, but that happens...did other good stuff. He did put away the rebound from Fonte's goal...the right thing to do. Loved Mauricio trying to wrestle the ball off their assistant manager (?) before giving up, realising it was a little unseemly.

Wish Jack would shoot more often. Very unlucky last night and goals is all that's missing from his game.

Indeed. If we imagine rooms for players where they stand, categorised, Jack is not quite entering the Lundekvam category room just yet, but he can certainly see the door.

One thing. Even if you are Claus Lundekvam, you can always leave your own room. ;)

What about Jose Fonte..? Goal Machine..! :D

Indeed, personally I can forgive missed chances, but for the rest of that half particularly he was very sloppy with the ball, which I think is what drew people's ire. I think it just shows every player feeds off confidence, in the Fulham game Rickie was playing pretty average then he grabs a goal and then spent the rest of the game running round like a 25-year old playing at full flow, last night he failed to capitalise on two good chances and then spent most of the game with a face like thunder trudging around and getting more and more pissed off (I saw him pull up and curse the heavens at least 3 times, after a move had broken down).

I don't! Well sometimes when we've got a healthy lead and the ball drops to Jack in a promising position I find myself encouraging him to have a pop, but when we're searching for a goal and he shanks one wide from 30 yards it usually results in turning away with a grimace and 'Just give it up son, it's never going to happen' (a bit like Jay last night with his overhead kicks!).

Hull started to get back into the game as soon as Rickie went off.

If we're going to be slightly fanciful with our transfer targets I think Rooney would be perfect(though we would have handsomeness issues)

Cork definitely adds something to the mix but it ain't goals and neither is it assists.. Perhaps we just have to accept that he is the tidy cog in the wheel that keeps the machine purring..

You lot better get used to Lambert leading the line for us. It's going to happen for a while yet. He's criminally underrated on here.

I don't think he is underrated on here. I think a lot of people are worried about this back issue as it seems to be affecting some parts of his game.

    Rickie Lambert underrated? No chance
    Rickie Lambert undervalued? No chance
    Fans concerned? Hugely!

    Big difference fella.

Didn't he get quite prolific before he retired..? Added another one or two goals in short order.

I remember WGS's comment about Claus' chances of scoring. This is an old quote from The Saints Web when I was there:

Strachan was on Sky on Sunday morning. He saw John Terry's goal and said he was impressed that Terry goes up expecting to score. He contrasted this to Claus Lundekvam the Saints central defender who goes up for every dead ball and never ever looks remotely like scoring. He said if there was a dead body lying in the penalty area the ball would hit it on the head several times a season which he said is more than Lundekvam can manage. He said referees should book Lundekvam for timewasting every time he goes up for a corner. When the co-commentator said if Lundekvam was watching Strachan was only joking. Strachan assured him he was deadly serious.

    That still makes me laugh.

It took Paul Sturrock to coach Claus into scoring. :)

Yeah, back problems tend to be chronic, degenerative problems, especially if you happen to play a sport and position that involves someone jumping on your back twenty times a night. Consequently, we're likely facing two options: ride Rickie for as long as possible, likely getting far less than his full impact and potentially shortening his effective career, or use him more sparingly, hopefully getting the most out of him down the back stretch of his career.

That people favour the latter isn't owing to any underrating of Rickie's talents, but rather the reality that there are often trade-offs to be made with older players. I'd rather have 100% of Rickie 50% if the time over 3-4 years, rather than 50% of Rickie 100% of the time while inviting the possibility that he'll break down entirely.

Didn't Claus only ever score against Dave Jones (of all managers)? First vs Wolves, then vs Cardiff.

    Hull fan in peace.

Well Done and played. No complaints with the result. Just a shame that we have kept 2 of our worst PL performances for our games with you guys. But full credit where it is due. Now go and beat all our rivals in the bottom half and finish above Man Utd please. 7th is well within your sights.

Good Luck for the rest of the season and see you all next season in the PL.

Top marks go to Fonte - Boruc and Chambers for signing fans autograph books and programmes after the game.

Massive black mark to Ricky "I am too big now to sign" Lambert. Ignored a few fans especially one girl in a wheelchair who had waited patiently for his signature. Her father was not impressed either.

Maybe someone who knows Lambert on here can have a word. <cheers>
