out of 30 something players signed youve got 12 as successes - though Watt ? on loan ? - Stokes ?? Dan Maj ?? anyway , if we have broad agreement , thats still a piss poor return on the outlay. The big bucks for wanyama papered over a lot of cracks. I also thought Miku and Lassad never got a fair crack of the whip ... but thats another story
11 strikers signed. Only one could be considered an unqualified success. Aye but Celtic know what they are doing. Buy someone decent FFS.
At the time he signed he was exactly what we needed. He wasnt the best but was experienced and added a bit of height and bult to the Defence. He did a job. Much Like Balde - hes no Maldini but did a turn. Better than Caldwell and McManus combined thats for sure.
Yep we are just moving 1 (or 2 or 3 at a time) useless ****s for anther one. You get what you pay for If Balde and Watt are Players for the future then we really should have an attacking coach who works with them, like Lennon was able to pass on his midfield experience to Wanyama and Mjalby his defensive experience to Wilson/Lustig/Matthews/Ambrose etc. But we dont have a forwards coach. So we essentially are just buying them and hoping they get better. I'm 34 and still think there is hope for me. Maybe I should give Lennon a call and tell him in 2 or 3 years I might be as good as Larsson, see if i cant get myself £10k a week
There is a litany of pish-taking going on at Celtic just now. Without significant improvement over the summer, especially when Forster goes, then we have **** all chance of Champions League next season. No ambition while baldly lying to the fans week-in/week-out in public. ****e state of affairs.
Welcome to Scottish football. Our stadium is half full, we get **** all tv money and nobody wants to play for us anymore. Considering all that Lennon is doing a grand job while having to buy inexperienced youngsters and then sell the good ones on.
This is the problem though. We have plenty of homegrown inexperienced youngsters. Why is Lennon pissing out good money buying inexperienced youngsters?
Aye, the ****e being spouted by the club is both confusing and contradictory at times. The club have lost all respect for the fans and just tell whatever pish they think will appease the ******ed among us.
In the good ol' days, MON bought players in their late 20s who made an immediate impact on the team. Lennon doesn't have the luxury of working in that market. He has to buy cheap and hope that 1 or 2 a season can be sold on at significant profit. MON didn't have to worry about that and I'm struggling to think of any of his players who we sold for more than we paid? Anyone? And there wasn't many "homegrown" players coming through the ranks during his time either. Changed times.
Not really. The only difference is now we can't afford expensive players like Sutton and Hartson so we have to rely on bringing through youth and we still aren't giving them a chance.
To be fair, that's a pretty huge difference. The fact is both MON and Lennon have been successful, only under different circumstances. Previously we moaned that MON left an aging team with no sell-on value. Now we're bemoaning the lack of genuine quality as we scrape around in the bargain bin. As for not giving youth a chance, I would love as much as anybody some stellar talent to come through the ranks. But it's tricky being a celtic manager; for every fan who wants to see youth given a go and doesn't mind a couple of defeats, there are at least as many moaning ****ers who get on the players' and manager's backs when we're not 3-0 up at halftime
It is changed times - so an ideal chance to try youth, or try the players that he does spend what money he is given - as opposed to spending it, sending them on loan and paying them off
We are what 21 points clear? We can afford to play 1 youth player per match. We certainly can afford to start at least 1 multi million pound signing (Balde, Boerigter (granted he is usally not fit), Biton per match. Even when we have been winning 3/4-0 recently we give Balde 7 minutes. He may be ****e. But give him 2 or 3 90 minutes to try and prove its not just because he aint getting time. In Turkey (friendlies so cannot read too much) he and the younger players did alright by all accounts
