Incredible, to think that two or three seasons ago it was our home form that carried us through the season and it's now holding us back.
Looking like we will finish again with at least 10 away wins. Just having home form equal to Everton would have us on 53 pts.
We're 9 points behind Chelsea, had we not have stuffed up at home with losses to WHUFC, NUFC, LFC (won't count MCFC as they're on another level) and the draw to WBA, we'd be well in the mix of challenging for the title! ****ing hell Spurs, you really do like making things difficult.
Fortunately none of our rivals have really been able to take advantage of our meh home form. I doubt many of us would have thought 2-3 months ago that Spurs would be 9 pts from top at this point in the season.
Yeah fair point. Under AVB I genuinely thought we'd be looking at an 8th place finish. Tim's renewed my optimism and I think top 5 is definitely do-able, top 4 is possible though we need to hope Pool have a bad patch, hopefully their drubbing of Arsenal was their pinnacle for the season and now they start dropping a few points.
I find it amazing how we're only 9 points behind the leaders, yet we've been very very average this season. Infact, we've been ****e most of the time and our goal difference is laughable! How has this happened?!
This is the one thing i have from this season when talking to Liverpool fans (who lets be honest are much better than us, have had some great results and are playing great football). I say: It must be worrying that you are having an absolutely fantastic season and we are having a season so bad we have sacked our manager and yet we are just 3pts behind?
"It must be worrying that you are having an absolutely fantastic season and ..." 70m odd Euros more per season in revenues. "yet we are just 3pts behind?" <consolidification> You don't finish top 5 for 6 of the past 8 seasons, by worrying about the Poool being in nosebleed territory for once in 5 years.
Mate it's actually a miracle. This has been by far the worst season I've experienced in a good few years and yet somehow, we still have a chance of reaching our targets. It's actually a testament I suppose to how far we've come that we see this season as an utter failure (so far) and yet a club like Liverpool, who are having what many consider a superb season and are being considered title contenders, sit just 3 points in front, albeit with a far, far superior goal difference.
For aslong as I can remember we have been naturally a counter attacking team in terms of end product, even under AVB who tried to get us playing narrow and with inverted wingers, when it failed, especially last year, most of our goals came from hitting teams on the counter so thats one of the main reasons our away form is so good. At home, we get outplayed too often, teams arrive organised and pass the ball around us with ease and then once half time comes, the players wake up and take the game more to the opposition but also cut out the space that the opponents are getting joy with. Its a difficult one as Sherwood won't set the team up to play deep and hit on the counter at home as that will be viewed as negative, but by trying to attack and leaving gaps in midfield, it means we struggle at home.
"Mate it's actually a miracle." I can see Spurs getting a CL slot this season in spite of the poor play. *** Nemesis for the seasons we have played far better and been cruelly denied a CL slot. *** I think there have been PL top 4 finishes with negative GD before.
It'd be the beautiful side of Karma if you're right RDBD, we're due a bit of luck in league table finishings!
It's Arsenal who are in danger of slipping.( As Wenger proved at Lime street station) where he didn't... Mind the gap.
I doubt we can have negative and qualify. We are zero now and cannot afford any beatings from Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool if we are going to get 4th. We need to beat these teams - or at least draw away to Chelsea/Liverpool. Otherwise they'll all be away from us and I can't see City in 5th somehow. Other than the 3 games against rivals, we have 10 games we need to be looking at winning. We have 47 points and will need at least 70, so 20/25 points from the 10 and a few points versus the 3 rivals. So the couple of defeats we can cope with, would have to be huge to outweigh the 8/9 victories we need.
The easiest way to achieve our objective would be to beat all our rivals by single goals and lose heavily to some utter ****e. I believe this was the plan with the West Ham game. We haven't quite grasped the first point yet but i hope Sherwood is working on this. Some big home defeats to Sunderland, Cardiff and Villa should see this still possible if we win the other 11 by 1 goal each. (I purposely picked home games as i want to finish top of the away league and i also want to relegate West Ham) COYS
That's the thing though. You're not having a bad season, you're just your usual selves. Since the dawn of time you've finished 5th-7th in the league and you're nailed on to finish in the same spot again this year, having spent over 100million on new talent.
That is just wrong, the way we have played is far from usual. We have standards at Spurs it's not just about where you finish, and you know that.
