It's hardly a surprise given the games he's played. Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea, and a clean sheet against Stoke at home, and away games including Tottenham, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

That's a difficult question, I've said before Southampton are one of the best teams for pressuring opponents, it's remarkable stuff and definitely their managers game plan, it's not something all players can do, he's worked at that for a year and moulded his team to do, but they have the players to pressure and take the ball, their footwork is remarkable, they just lack that killer instinct the top teams have

Southampton are a really brilliant team, can't see them dropping below the top half for awhile if they keep these players

They remind me of top spanish team off the ball

It's almost 7pm my time. I might watch just to see what's going on. My guess is that our middle is still our weak link.

It's hard to tell when we played it over them and they played down the flanks (Meyler started on the left and switched to the right when Boyd came on). We did have the slowest midfield possible though with Meyler, Huddlestone, Livermore and Boyd. Particularly the two wide players compared to Saints we were handicapped by it.

OK, watching the game right now, 26 minutes in and we're definitely a problem for Southampton, which I really like their style of play. Southampton remind me of Real Madrid and Bayern in their style of controlling the ball. So far I think we're getting very creative with Long and Jelavic, but these crazy long balls and crossing your fingers is crazy. We need to work on OUR style and controlling the ball. We just don't seem to be on the same page in the middle.

I'd love to see someone in our middle be Modric like. Yes I'm a Croatian fan boy but that style of play would really suit us well in the midfield, grow some balls, keep it and press forward.

As an example. While he's a great player, he's just confident and we need our midfield to think this way. We need to create better chances and what I'm seeing in the middle is depressing, and actually it's coming from the back. Get the back line to build the control and through the midfield.

Ok, I've watched the first half and I think we looked very good other than our long ball bullshit. We need to control the midfield to be strong.

Frustrating to watch last night. We just couldn't settle on the ball at any point, never knitted passes together and got generally drowned out.

Every time Huddlestone got the ball he was swamped. There was a moment in the first half when he got it just near the corner of our own box, and four Southampton players launched themselves toward him. He couldn't even turn around.

It's a shame it just seemed to end up as hoofball, but I think as good as we are these days, Southampton are just several notches ahead of us at the moment, and had us under total control.

Alex Bruce was wobbling all over by the end, he looked like someone who'd been given the run around for 90 mins, emerged relatively unscathed, and wanted to get home quick before it was too late and he actually did get torn apart by someone.

The game against Cardiff is massive. They're nowhere near as good as Soton, but I think what they're lacking in quality and results at the moment will at least be made up for in effort and intensity, which we must match.

Bruce said he thinks it might go to the final match, and I think it will too. I'd love to see some back-to-back victories, but just don't think we will at the moment.

    Strap yourselves in!

Hey guys don't be too downhearted......On another night, in another match, playing the way you did and you will get the results. You will be safe enough!!
It is always a bummer when you lose at home......You all look for answers but the reality is finding them doesn't change the result.
The Saints fans respect teams like Hull because the fans just want to see good football same as they do. Bruce is a good manager and he will see you through. Just remember though he too is human and will make bad choices sometimes. It goes with the territory I am afraid as does having changes forced upon you.
I have only seen highlights but I didn't think you played too badly yes it got a bit desperate towards the end perhaps......and the long ball was applied perhaps more than normal under pressure. We did exactly the same at the weekend against Stoke. Seems to be a trend....Good luck to you Hull City fans....they can call you Tigers...Dolphins...Roosters what ever they like....you will always be Hull city to us!! Good luck for the rest of the season.:emoticon-0148-yes:

Utterly atrocious football, with the exception of perhaps five minutes at the start of the second-half. I overheard a bloke on the way home saying he'd drifted off at one point, and when he came round he forgot where he was for a second and thought he was watching Barnet reserves.

Not having Rosie at the start and losing McShane early did not help the cause either and Elmo is wasted as a full back. But we have given 2 of our worst performances this season against the Saints. They are a very good side and deserved to win for the game we played. Give them credit for that. A 1-0 loss is a vast improvement score wise.

West Ham have taken 10 points from there last 4 games. 0-0 @ Chelsea and 3 x 2-0 wins against Swansea, Villa and Norwich. West Ham have now 13 clean sheets this season. To think that they were worried over missing Andy Carroll. Lol.

Agreed. We could have been at least 2-0 idown in double quick time.

True. That was what disappointed me most. But with Brady and Aluko not far away we shall be able to get back and play like we can. The best way to beat teams like Southampton is to move the ball quickly into the space they leave by there chasing in packs. That we sadly failed to do last night.

Yes please. It is actually saturday week. You are up @ Sunderland on saturday in the FA Cup. Your game @ West Ham is Andy Carrolls last of his 3 game ban. Plus you also have trips to Palace, Swansea and Villa and home games with Norwich and Cardiff. Keep it going pleaae lads.

    Nothing worth having ever is.

Thanks and same to you. See you next season.

Yes. We need to get that sorted out for next season.

True and you finished 14th last season and look at you guys now. I still think we can finish 10th and you are now just 2 points behind Man Utd. Southampton-Man Utd and Newcastle fighting it out for 7th spot eh ??

Cheers and yes the same to you. See you next season.

    Someone on photoshop?

I don't remember seeing any knee high studs down the leg challenges, we didn't have anyone sent off, and I very much doubt we wouldn't have a player up on an FA charge if it had been missed by the ref.

Like I said, it was likely accidental, it probably happened when Fonte went into a challenge or attacked the ball and a players' boot just happened to contact his shin.

He mentioned that his shinpad got broken; that's probably where the injury came from.
