I'm off to bed now, anyway. Tedious work to come, followed by giving Poch some much-needed dreads. And now for my epic sign-off...

With or without Gallagher, we will need at least another one.

I'd be pretty confident in saying it'll be precisely the same as how I feel about them right now. Number one priority.

I disagree. One energetic performance (combined with missing a sitter) is all I need to see to convince me that the long and short term future at the position is settled.

Sam may well become a cracking player for us in time and over the years to come, but to kick on from here, we need a topline, mobile striker straight away.

(PS - yes I do know you were being sarcastic Dan, don't worry! This wasn't directed at your comment!)

Southampton are easily the best side we've faced, home and away this season. A superb work rate off the ball, and on it. Twats <laugh>

I'm sure we could make up some chant to do with "A Boob, A Car" but then again, we'd never sing it whilst we have the Whittingham chantzzzzz

Just watched the highlights on SaintsPlayer - much clearer than last night's ratty feed that kept freezing (just as Jay was lining up to hit the bar, for instance).

How did that not end up 5-1? I love Rickie but I must say that ones that he would certainly have planted two years ago just seem not to be going in. It might be rose-tinted backwards-looking spectacles but I'm sure the two early chances would have gone in in the past. I bet he's as frustrated as hell.

Also, is it just me of is Jay looking up a little more when he has the ball (he seemed just to lok at his feet)? If he is, he'ds shaping up to be a real diamond.

After this game I have finally stopped looking below us rather than above us. A nice 11 point gap to 10th now, I am relieved. Now on to catching United and my season will be complete. I think we have a realistic chance of taking 7th position if we keep this form up and with United still having to come to St Marys, we have every opportunity of doing so.

I'm very pleased with this result as it could have been a slip up...away from home against a team with a good defence. It also keeps our unbeaten run going. I suspect United will pull away from us, but let's just day dream about the possibility of playing United on the last game of the season at St Mary's with 7th spot for grabs.

Fran, I may have said this before, but my best mate is a United fan.

When I saw the fixtures last June it triggered a changing timeline in my hopes and expectations:

June 13: see we have united at home.. OMG, 2005 again!

August 13: Saints win opening premier league game. ..Oh wouldn't it be good to stop united winning the league in may

October 13: saints go third in the prem... It would be funny if united had to beat us in may to qualify for champions league

December 13: despite saints' poor run, united continue to lose games at old Trafford... Hey we could stop them getting in the Europa league

February 13: saints win away AGAIN and sit 2 points behind united... Wow, perhaps we'll beat them in may to finish above them!!!

I LOVE THIS SEASON; I LOVE FOOTBALL

This is a great season...still a few teams who can take the title and everyone in bottom half fighting against relegation. Correction: great if you are not in the bottom half :) Pundits must be loving it as they have struggled to maintain interest in previous seasons...last season was particularly boring with just a couple of clubs at the bottom having anything to play for on the last day.

At least JRod was trying a few different ways of scoring rather than the curving prod around the GK, a bit more practice and he might get a few more goals!
