I agree with all that. However, targets and big picture stuff are for managers and keen followers, not the players. It goes without saying that players will have the blinders on and kept fully concentrated on the game at hand, the opponent, tactics and the physical preparation. And I'm sure Brendan and his staff will do a very commendable job at 'taking it one game at a time' week in week out. The question is how does Brendan react to a feisty mediocre outfit, esp away on their turf, when our game is somehow not clicking together early on? Our away record shows that we haven't found a satisfactory response to this.
Well he certainly does not get his slide-rule out and start doing little useless sums. He uses his eyes and tries to define what is going wrong and how (with the players he has) he can fix it. But he now has the advantage of experience on his side. You are not telling me that in the great post-match washdown those questions did not come up and solutions proposed. After all we can comment, shout and moan but he's the manager and that is what he's getting paid for!
i'd say i EXPECT, no DEMAND we win all six of those games. those are bread and butter games. of course anything can happen but we need to win the games v lower half opposition no matter how good we might thiink they are. we must be better. we must put fear i nthem and they should be the ones thinking about us and how hard we'll be to play. to have to win 2 out of 4 v chavs, ****es, citeh and spuds? no thanks. far easier put 6 past cardiff than to beat chavski. then if we win those games we can go play the bigger games for higher league position.
AWAY from home, no team in the PL, let alone one with Liverpool's current defence, has the right to expect to win every game, especially against teams fighting for their lives. How does a record of W4D4L4 equate to expecting W6D0L0 ? The OP's haul of 10 from 16 would be enough (along with continuing good home results) for TOP4 IMO.
Playing against teams scrapping to stay up will make it more difficult, we have to aim to win them all though as difficult as that may be, it's going to be interesting for us over the next couple of months we may be in a title fight we may just be hanging onto top 4, it's gonna be a ride.
No problem with aiming to win every game, that's fine. Just saying that expecting it that to happen, given the previous away record and quality of the current defence is totally unrealistic.
Thing is though when playing these struggling teams, psychologically, if you stamp on them your will and don't let them in the game, they're much easier to brush aside than a team with inherent confidence. On the other hand, they acquire confidence and attack you with much more belief if you wobble, get frustrated, show your own insecurities.
What are you talking about? You should win all six away games that you have highlighted plus the three home games givng you a total of 77!! You should be able to beat Spurs - that makes 80!! City and Chavs don't usually do that brilliantly at Anfield (both could have Champions League commitments - I expect one of City or Chavs to make the semis of that tournament. Then is it a matter of beating United. With a Premiership title at stake you will do it!! You will be Champions this season!!!
Think of it!! When do you guys play United? Fancy going top of the Leauge with a win at Old Trafford!! Remember years ago, Arsenal winning the League at White Hart Lane (1971 for the old ones who use this site) Why not you guys winning at your deadliest rivals. And I bet United fans would shake your hand afterwards as they have more respect (albeit grudging) for Liverpool than Chavs, City or Arsenal!!
You obviously don't know the relationship between them and us, they'd sooner any of your other three won it or it'll be 20>19 in league titles. Great thought though Ides.
We have been erratic away from home, but the stats are misleading when you consider who we've already played compared with those still to come. The only away results that you could really be too disappointed with would be the Hull loss, and West Brom and Swansea draws. The way it boils down is we've played most of our 'easy' home games and still have most of our 'easy' away games yet to play. I'd be very disappointed if we didn't win at least 4 of those remaining six. That said I really see the Southampton game as a tough one and don't think a draw there would be a terrible result. Just to clarify I don't think any of those away games are going to be easy, but I don't think it's unreasonable to go into at least 5 of them expecting a win.
Hi Page Moss Kopite!! Fully aware of the bitterness between United and Liverpool but just sense they wouldn't begrudge the title going to you rather than sides built basically on money from generous benefactors!! Just win at OT!!
After tonights result I feel a little hypocritical. Since the start of the season I've been banging on that we must continue to aim for the top. For the last few days I've been banging on about taking one game at a time. Tonight my heart is starting to say "What If"? I'll just have to ensure that my head rules my heart - pity though!!!
