So I'm "mindless" because I think being unbeaten and having only dropped 6 points in 24 league games is actually not a "given"?
I agree with you , we 're all told how good Victor and Hooper were , we won the league with our lowest ever points total. Celtic are in a no win situation , we win a game the opposition are crap , we don't win, we're crap .
no, but you are being obtuse - is having only dropped 6 points in a league we were always going to win ( a given ) in any way meaningful or relevant or taking the team forward in terms of development ? No, its a false and irrelevant achievement proposed by the manager to deflect from our obvious shortcomings which will be swallowed hook, line and sinker by the kind of fud who phones up radio clyde to proclaim celtics new point scored over rangers ... Im amazed people buy into this kind of crap. And to achieve this Lennon continues to fail to develop youth or the players he has spent millions on who linger on the bench to make a seven minutes substitute appearance
Summat up in Paradise? Surely no? BTW it is a bit of a cloud over Lennon that he hasn't done more given the lack of competition.
Lennon does play the kids. Hooper, wanyama, matthews, forrest, forster etc. Plenty of younger players have made their name under Lennon.
Im going to suggest that none of the players at Lennoxtown just now will ever be anything other than average scottish players, if we had a wonderkid he would be in the team just now. Oneil wasnt exactly one for going to the youth teams for players but he still brought McGeady through, we obviously dont have any one of that standard. If only we were Belgian.
The only way well be bringing through a Champions League class player again is if we start kidnapping weans in Brazil, Argentina, France, Spain, Belgium and Germany, get them signed up for lifetime deals at gunpoint. Any scottish player bordering on decent is in England by the time theyre 15 and the country could not produce a class player to save itself these days. I blame Liewell and cooncil no ball game signs for that anaw.
Im not fascinated with home grown players, but if we want to improve we have to have a different model than that of spending millions on imports who dont contribute, or dont get the chance to contribute - this being the ideal time to test them - in the vague hope of lucking out on another Victor style windfall, a bit of an aberration which has papered over a lot of cracks in our transfer dealings. What was the reasoning behind shipping out a number of forwards on loan and then buying someone who - if I remember correctly - wasnt first choice striker at Wolves ?
I'm not being obtuse in the slightest. I genuinely think that it's utterly ridiculous that people think that Lennon should go. As for your latter point, as eric said, he's brought (has had to bring in!) more than a few young players that have proven big successes. In fact, our whole transfer policy is based around buying young unproven players and "developing them".
