As Mark Twain said "lies, dam lies & statistics" we will never know if Powell was sacked in the summer that crowd numbers would have increased. I am fairly sure that if we had not gone up under Powell the crowds would have dropped. Can we not just agree to differ. .
Watch out for 10 across in today's Guardian cryptic crossword. "A joker who twists all known facts to support his fetid allegiance to another joker". Two words. Seven words and eleven words. I have got this far on my (borrowed) copy C------ B----------
Bring it in, Nick. Happy for you all to debate till you're blue in the face about whether attendances declined under CP or not - but not having insults. Time to keep it on topic.
Evidence is information helpful in forming a conclusion or judgment Fact is an objective consensus on a fundamental reality that has been agreed upon by a substantial number of people. Fact is that which is accepted by a large number of persons. Evidence is information provided by a few persons for accepting a certain fact. Some evidences may become disputable at a later date. That which is never disputed becomes a fact “Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true.” - Homer Simpson The fact is the evidence on this thread is being disputed so it cannot be taken as fact - SVC
Counterargument to what ? I am saying that crowds are massively down under CP. I am arguing based on anecdotal evidence (talking and sitting amongst other Charlton fans, and reading their comments on websites, that this is due to the poor football. I do find some of the arguments put forward to defend CP...for instance that he has not had backing....yes....fetid.
A counterargument to my first post in this thread. I am saying that, in fact, since Chris Powell was appointed, crowds have gone up by 6%, using official Football League attendance stats. I am also saying that, even if attendances have gone down this season, the fact that the football has been poor is only one of a few factors, many of which are completely beyond Powell's control, when you seem to be suggesting it's entirely down to Powell's poor football. Therefore, if we are indeed going down the ****ter as a result of falling attendances (and even if we had a few more thousand fans coming, that wouldn't necessarily save us from it) it is not all down to Powell. I've no problem with being called a joker... after all, it's not the worst insult out there ending in -ker
Roland Duchatelet's spokesman becomes a member of not606 to defend Chris Powell's record & our rise in attendances.
Double standards? I've haven't been on much due to work, if you want to point me in the direction of things said to you which is insulting then please do. The same applies to all, not individuals - keep the debate clean and fair with no insults.
Not double standards, V-a-v. There have been too many catfights on this forum recently, invariably started by yourself and Typical insulting your fellow Charlton fans who see things differently from the way you do. It's not just about being right, it's about an exchange of views.
I'm not harsh or nasty to 1 person... I hate everyone ;D If I'm someone who has offended anyone, sorry... I'll buy you a pint if you ever recognise me
Will you be standing outside Bartrams in a white suit holding a red rose? Never say no to a free drink
Ok....I think I am now getting the gist of the pro Powell argument, which goes something like this... Thy Four Commandments For Supporting Thouest Most Holy Flawed Genius Sir Chris of Spurs 1. 5 league wins this season....not Powell's fault. 2. Ugly unattractive football leading to declining gates.....not Powell's fault 3. Negative tactics and baffling substiutions all season.....nope....not Powell's fault, either 4. Poor signings galore like Gower, Button, Sordell, Kerkar etc.....guess what?....not Sir Chris's fault either! BUT 101 points in Division Three ..................not Powell's fault....oops sorry.......delete......that was "all down to Powell" (when in reality a blind one legged donkey could have bought promotion that season bankrolled by the Jenkinson £1m...) Conclusion: Rampant, politically correct/short sighted Ostrich tendency-related manouvres on display here
Sordell, people were happy with when he signed, not sure if it was relief we had a striker or not. 5 wins, not all Powell's fault but yes poor tactics don't help that And the unattractive football is not what declining gates are, they are based on the success on the pitch, something that Tony Pulis shows has nothing to do with how attractive football is.
Ted There is a difference between unattractive winning football and unattractive losing football. Pulis manages the former, Powell the latter.
Yes and Pullis got the opportunity to keep & sign players that further help win football matches, as last week proved, and he got to pick the signings himself as well... I'm all for getting a better manager.. Charlton to succeed first & foremost always, but I only see us getting a glove puppet of a manager... I can't see a guy like Pullis working under the new set of rules that'll have to fit RD's franchise...
One of my main complaints about Sir Chris is that he doesn't attend the under-21 games, which makes me doubt whether he's the right manager to bring us success through the Academy, which Roland has made it clear is his aim and which I like. I doubt whether we'd have seen Poyet if we hadn't sold Stephens. If it had been his intention to play him we'd have seen him in the squad more, with one or two decent substitute appearances. The tactic of throwing a youngster in at the deep end to see if he can sink or swim worked with Poyet, it didn't work with Pigott.
But you don't make it that there is a clear difference, you just say unattractive football, not winning unattractive football or losing unattractive football. The way you make it out that unless we played like Barca we won't have any fans or supporters show up and cheer us on. We can play very nice football, we all know we can, Danny Holland's Goal in League 1 against... bournemouth I think it was, comes to mind, was briliant, and we can play very very nice football. The pitch doesn't help that's for sure (I can't comment away from home as not seen an away game this year yet) so the sh!t pitch is Powell's fault too right? And as just been said, we can't really see a better manager wanting to come to us, we will recieve the Standard Liege u15 boss most likely.
How the hell can he make a judgement on the youngsters if he's not there? Surely someone films the matches? For the purpose of motivation, the youngsters need to see the Big Boss Man on the touchline. Shockin'.
