At work and cant post tomorrow so what do we think? Head-to-head Saints won 4-1 in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season. It was the first Premier League meeting between the two teams. Hull City Hull have conceded only nine goals at home, the same number as Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool. Only Arsenal have a better record (six). City have scored 12 of their 25 league goals this season inside the first half-hour of games. Shane Long has scored two goals in his first two games for Hull - the third time this season he has scored back-to-back league goals. Nikica Jelavic's only brace in the Premier League came against Southampton - while playing for Everton in September 2012. Tom Huddlestone and Ahmed Elmohamady are the only players to have featured in all 25 of Hull City's league games this term. Cardiff (13) and Crystal Palace (12) are the only two teams to have failed to score on more occasions than Hull City (11). Southampton Saints have lost one of their last five away games in the Premier League. They are also unbeaten in their last five league games (W2 D3) Mauricio Pochettino's side have only failed to score twice in their last 25 league and cup games stretching back to September. Rickie Lambert has scored in back-to-back games for Southampton. Jay Rodriguez has scored seven goals in his last eight Premier League appearances away from home.
http://www.hullcitytigers.com/news/article/201314-bruce-on-southampton-h-1351612.aspx Bruce says Tuesday night's clash is potentially the Tigers' biggest home game for a long time.... Steve Bruce believes that Tuesday night’s clash with Southampton is potentially Hull City’s biggest home game for a long time – and the manager has called upon the club’s fans to be at their usual vocal best and play their part in roaring the side on to another positive result. After Saturday’s 2-0 victory at Sunderland, the Tigers will be looking to register successive league wins for only the second time this season and with the bottom half of the table as tight as it has ever been, Bruce knows how vital a six-point return in the space of a few days could be. “This is a big, big game for us,” said Bruce. “It’s arguably as big a game as we’ve had at the KC Stadium for a long time and if we could win it, it would be great because back-to-back victories for a bottom half team can send you up the table very quickly, especially with how tight it is. “We’ve just seen West Ham do that and move from the bottom of the league into mid-table. “We’re at home and we need to make sure our home form stays rock solid. Our home support is a huge thing. We took nearly 3,000 supporters to Sunderland at the weekend and they were terrific, and now our home support is a huge thing in our favour and it makes a heck of a difference.” Remaining tickets for Tuesday night’s game (KO 7.45pm) are on sale now. Book your seat online and collect on arrival, or alternatively visit the KC Stadium Ticket Office in person or call 01482 505600 to buy your ticket.
they ran rings round us, the last time we met...................... cant see that changing, but at least we have some goal threat now.
Bad timing with the Rosenior injury. The threat of Rodriguez and Shaw down the left could cause us major problems. A Sam Ricketts type would be handy just now what with Figgy being suspect as well. Moving McShane out to the right could be disruptive also as we are light in the centre and Koren in front of Elmo doesn't give me a lot of confidence.Boyd would be a better option he has played well when coming on as a sub., he has more in his legs than Koren when needing to defend and can offer just as much going forward. Do we have a decent specialist right back in the reserves anyone ?
Don't watch, go to bed, get over the jet-lag! 2-1, play the obvious 3-5-2 and don't fall into the trap of disrupting natural positions that are performing well.
We only have one available right sided player so surely we're best playing 352. Gets Elmo in his best position, doesn't disrupt too much else since Figgy and Meyler can just drop into more central roles.
I cannot speak for others , but I am NOT be thinking you will be an easy 3 points , far FAR from it .
Merson's prediction; "This Premier League is just so hard to call. Hull seemed to be on a slippery slope and you thought they were bang in it if they went to Sunderland and lost. But they bought some good forwards in January and they ended up playing against 10 men for most of the game on Saturday and winning comfortably. With their front two you would probably think they'll score enough goals to stay up now, so it really does all change so quickly. Southampton are one of those teams who can't get in Europe and can't get relegated - and so should be a really good cup team. This should be a good game because there's not much between the two sides. PAUL PREDICTS: 2-2" This is a huge compliment in my eyes.
Back in December I defended Merson after posters were (inaccurately) claiming he always predicted defeats for us. In reality, up to mid-December he'd predicted results that would have given us 16 points, rather than the 12 points Lawro's would have given us. The funny thing is, since then he'd tipped us to lose every single match except Fulham (he predicted a draw) and tonight (another draw). So now people really can moan about his tips with some justification - even if he does say some nice things about us!
Is there a website where it's possible to look at what the muppets have predicted? Or are you an incredible geek Tuckin who writes it all down in a notebook?
Almost the latter - I just went to his section on the Sky website and went back through his last few weeks of predictions. Only took 3 or 4 minutes. The BBC website does print a table each week below Lawro's predictions, though - we'd be 18th if it was up to him, although he's tipped us to win tonight. Just look at where Fulham would be if his tips came true, meanwhile... http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/26117493
