Yes, I know why you said it, but I said that it's tragic that you would say something like that - and that the events preceding this have been so spectacularly shambolic that your expectations of the club have dropped so low that you're telling me it's something I should appreciate (I won't be doing that, thanks).

That isn't what a director of football does, though! For sure, Kinnear might have been performing this role under the title of 'director of football', but that's just an arbitrary use of the term. You're almost talking about some glorified secretary.

Each to their own, but understanding MAs track record I would certainly appreciate seeing someone appointed who can perform the role in a professional and dignified manner. Note that I have not said I would be content with Roeder only for this reason but for a combination of factors.

Our previous two DoFs have been appointed with overseeing transfer dealings being made out to be the chief focus of their role, so for us it is likely that any future appointment would be made for a similar purpose - whether that is a traditional DoF responsibility or not (it was my understanding that the exact nature of a DoF role varies club to club).

Surely whoever is our next DoF (if we have one at all) should have French as his first language. Would help a lot with the negotiations of most of our targets. What about :emoticon-0138-think: .....Ginola :emoticon-0111-blush

    Peter Kenyon?

He knows all about improving club image, brand, revenue etc and has experience in multi million pound negotiations. Let Carr find the players and let Kenyon do the deals.

He's also not in employed within football at present.

Update on this - Damien Comolli is apparently in the frame and quoted as being "interested in the job". Hmmm.

Anything mentioned about Roman Abramovich wanting to buy MA out?

    Would be a decent appintment.

Wasted money on Carroll and Downing but also signed Modric, Bale & Suarez.

My thought's exactly. I don't necessarily think he was solely responsible for Carroll, I think that was a Kenny call. And neither he nor Downing were exactly cr@p before they turned up. But what he has done is better with gambles. Bale was a kid, Modric from Zagreb and Suarez from Ajax. He's probably been responsible for a net profit across those three of around £100m or more. If that doesn't appeal to Mr. Ashley, nothing will.

The only thing I do have a problem with is that it's actually a good move. And that means Ashley is not intending to leave. That said, if Mike reinvested near enough all of the profits minus the £18m he wants repaying, and did so with Comolli doing the deals....well, maybe there is a silver lining after all.

    Cheers.
