Sunderland went into the weekend's game against Hull City on a high, we had only lost two of the last 14 games, were slowly making our way up the league, had just won 3-0 in an away derby and had reached the final of the Capital One Cup. So I'm sure we all thought 'typical Sunderland' when Wes Brown got himself sent off after 5 minutes and then after the full time whistle blew with the home side on the wrong end of a 2-0 defeat to Steve Bruce's Hull. We do have a habit of kicking ourselves in the foot just when things are starting to look up, something that ex-Sunderland manager Steve says is in the history of the club; Sunderland were flying. To be fair, what they've done in the last few weeks is remarkable, because everyone thought they were gone. But in my experience here, there's always something around the corner. OK, they win the derby 3-0, got to a cup final, but what's going to happen next? Is that typical Sunderland? Is that the history of Sunderland? Can I say that? Although that is something we are often guilty of, he's the last person we actually want to hear it from. Particularly after his recent comments about wanting his time at Sunderland to be completely behind him now coming immediately after another round of antagonising comments. Bruce then went on to defend his record at Sunderland, once again; There will be more managers sacked here, I won't be the last. People can have a look at what we did and in a few years' time, they might think we didn't do too badly. Spending as much as he did, while only once getting into the top 10 of the Premier League (even then we could have finished much lower bar a freak set of last day results going our way) will always ensure his time at Sunderland is seen as a failure, regardless of what he believes, and the club are still feeling the cost of some of his transfer failures.
To be fair to Bruce he's managed Wigan, Birmingham, Palace, Hull etc ........ Sunderland was his chance to manage a 'big' club and he blew it, he'll never shut up about us. BTW, I don't want a debate on what 'big' means in this context so don't ask. Bruce described Sunderland as huge, when he was set on, so I'll leave it at that. He'll obviously never get to manage one of the really top clubs so he's stuck with fighting relegation or scraping promotion year after year ........... it's Brucehog Day. Poyet won't be the last sacking at Sunderland ........... unlike all the other clubs
Before another article about the fat whingeing **** attracts a load of Hull fans over, here are the facts. From 1st February 2011 to 30th November 2011, when Brucehog was sacked, our league record was as follows: P27 W5 D6 L16 The only other game was a League Cup defeat away to Brighton. We were heading South faster than Scott of the Antarctic and SB was clearly a busted flush. The flabby-faced git should stop trying to mask the fact that he failed here and just concentrate on Hull FFS!
If Poyet was continually ganning on about Brighton, I'd be seriously pissed off and wanting him to concentrate on Sunderland. I've no idea why the Hull fans don't get annoyed, Sunderland was the first club Bruce mentioned when they scraped promotion If Poyet mentioned Brighton at Wembley, after we win the cup, I'd feel personally insulted.
Agree entirely, mate. What's his bloody problem? He's doing OK at Hull, so why keep mentioning us...?
As a Hull City fan I do agree with you. He does go on about it far too much and it clearly cut him deep. On the other hand though, in his head avenging his sacking with you seems to be driving him on more than anything and that's producing the goods for us. So as long as it stays this way and its his motivation to do well then I can live with it.
You're 4 points off a relegation place with a very hard fixture list ........ I wouldn't get too carried away. Saturday was only your 4th win since the end of September and we handed it to you on a plate to be honest. I'd prefer Hull to survive but it's far from certain.
I have no problem with that at all mate. I really don`t. If he wants to use that as a motivation then great. Go for it. The problem is what happens if/when it doesn`t work out? How will it then be our fault? It sure as hell won`t be his!
exactly so. we could probably list his favourite 20 and tick them off as we go. I don`t really expect the Hull fans to see it until it`s too late.
And I don't expect we'll see them come back, on here, and mention it when he's gone either. Of all the clubs he's managed, except Birmingham, I don't reckon he's got to 100 games for any of them ........... he's currently on 80 odd at Hull.
Eh? Who is getting carried away? Since the day we got promoted I thought we'd be in the relegation shake up until the last week of the season and I still do. Where in that post did I get 'carried away'?
This is probably correct. Full of it now but I`d be very surprised if it lasts. Midway into next season tops.

However, if you believe that 'yo'd be in the relegation shake up until the last week of the season' is producing the goods then fair enough ......... I can't say any more.
I wish people would stop posting things like that, that was a truly terrible time for Sunderland supporters. It was bad enough that we couldn't win but the football was so ugly & demoralising ............ even under McCarthy we saw some courage and desire.
