It's not been discussed in detail with the emphasis placed on it that I think it deserves as it will define our season but..... Who should captain this side? BHappy seemed to say that our Hungarian seemed to lead is he the missing link we need to push on to the play offs or does the leadership lie elsewhere?
He very well could be the leader. But forget the play-offs this season. Although 8 goals in 4 games means that there is a lot going for us, there is still a major structural fault within our team - 10 goals in those 4 games have been conceded. Until that is ironed out and we can get some consistency in defensive performance, any "run to the play-offs" is but a fond dream and unrealistic at the moment - much as I would like to see an inspired 1999-like run!
If he can stay fit, I'd like to see Fitz Hall given the armband - he does seem adept at organising those around him when he's on the pitch. Failing that, yes - Toszer does seem to be a natural as well. The trouble with both of those though is that they both may well be off in June, meaning back to square one. The only other current outfield candidates look to be Angella & Ekstrand, but neither really appear to have the required 'presence'.
I do not know who should be the team captain. What I do know is that a goalkeeper does not normaly make the best captain and I do not think Troy Deeney is either.
BB, Manu only signed a new contract in the summer as he felt the defeat at Wembley meant he had "unfinished business". If I'm correct that it was only for a year, I think that given where we are, we'll be looking for a new captain for next season anyway.
Shows how much we missed the leadership of a certain JE. I don't think FH should be captain, given his recent injury form...who else is there though?
John Eustace was a marvellous captain for us - even when he was out for the best part of a year with a back problem. He's not faring too badly as Derby's captain either...
I totally agree with JE being a fantastic captain, it was obvious the effect he had on leading the team and made a massive and immediate impact even when JDM was nominally still leading in games where jay wasn't playing and john took the reins we were a different prospect, if only...... but we let him go, bad mistake, I love this team we have now and it is capable of going on an amazing run......if lead properly.
Just one minor detail though, JE isn't Derby's captain, Richard Keogh is or at least that was the situation last night unless they're a club where there is a club captain and a team captain.
A player doesn't have to be a "named" captain (either club or team) to be a leader on the pitch and whatever we felt about JE's general play, that's what he is - and that is someone we really need right now.
