It would also stop his endless attempts to beat absolutely everyone on the other team, resulting in comical sequences where he goes back to beat players he's already gone past.
AVB had a different way of playing as we know, yet this season his controlling game had no Bale to finish off teams. Or Defoe like last year. Sherwood plays a different style and has got a better response from Adebayor and Eriksen but because we play a more open attacking game, he doesn't have the bully tactics of Avb to fall back on, nor does he have the experience yet to fully implement his ideas so I personally can't fully judge him as a manager until I see what response he gets from his best team who have played games together. And the reason I said 'whats it matter' is because Sherwood is unlikely to be given enough time to prove if he can get the team fully performing his way and have all key attacking players in form. But regardless, we're missing a Bale, VDV, Modric. Both Redknapp and AVB had the luxury of such players to go with their vision and that helps.
Be fair, no-one is complaining that we won and I think most are quite happy tonight. I am, I'm happy with the win, I'm happy with Sherwood, but surely everyone would agree that there is still a lot of room for improvement. That's what football debate is all about. If we all just posted "hooray we won!" this forum wouldn't last very long
And let's be honest, I don't have any sympathy for Everton but they did batter us first half. They never took their chances and we did. Yet crystal palace also battered us first half yet both games we won and kept a clean sheet. Sherwood apparently was nicknamed 'slippery' . Still living up to his nickname!
Be grateful that Boas was sacked earlier than sooner. Tim Sherwood really did save the Hotspurs this season. He really is indeed a tactical genius! Liverpool and the Hotspurs might reign in this season's premier league. Now the competition is definitely ON!
Slow out the blocks again, really gotta address the slow starting issue as teams with a better finisher will punish us severely. Osman had about 4 or 5 half decent chances to see Everton clear before half time, Hugo deserves a huge amount of credit for keeping us in it, especially the wonder save. That said we livened up in the second half, I thought Adebayor and Dembele were superb. Dembele dominated the centre of midfield and was doing his best to bring the ball forward at every opportunity where as Ade held the ball up well at times and chased a few lost causes, a good finish from him too to get us the 3 points. Lennon, Paulinho and my buddy Eriksen disappointed me. This is Lennon's 3rd consecutive game now where he's looked little better than tripe and Paulinho for me just continues at failing to impress since his initial promising start (I know he's returned from injury but pre-that too I thought he's looked distinctly average). He got the goal against Hull last week but prior to that he was shocking on the pitch, think I counted about 10 misplaced passes and I didn't think his game was much better today, was rightly subbed off. Eriksen didn't offer anything of note and again, was rightly subbed. Was very emotional after the game with JD's farewell solute, a great player and great servant to the club and it's actually sunk in that if Adebayor now gets injured, we're in deep ****. Overall though it's a very good 3 points against a solid Everton side, a much needed win too after Pool's thrashing of them lot and the fact it now puts us above Everton. MOTM for me would be Hugo, purely for keeping us in the game in the first half but Ade and Moussa definitely deserve special praise. Bentaleb was also good, outshining the £17m Brazilian Paulinho.
George Best used to do that - on purpose!...if they tried to kick him up in the air, he would just go back and make them look even more silly, hacking away at thin air...
Agree with most of that, but I actually thought paulinho looked pretty good before his injury. I don't see Paulinho's role as a particularly glamourous one, which is what anyone would expect, just because he's brazilian. For me, he's one of those players who's a "worker" and a player we miss when he's out. However, yesterday, he wasn't great, but I'll put that down to the fact he's coming back from injury Not sure what's going on with lennon at the moment. why is walker making all the crosses at the byline? why aren't we seeing lennon beat his marker and cut a ball back? Perhaps he's low on confidence, and as a result, is struggling for form. Eriksen's a simple one. He needs to play as a number 10. - You and I both know that, mate. He's not got much pace, he doesn't have any natural defensive qualities about him, yet we play him as a winger in front of Danny Rose, who is also suspect defensively too. He's wasted, which is why he looked bad.
I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again, but Walker and Lennon don't complement each other. Much as Glen Johnson has done for England, having a marauding right-back interfere's with Lennon's game, crowds his space and nullifies his threat. Naughton is a better match for him, whereas someone like Townsend or Lamela will probably benefit from Walker drawing people out wide, as they like to cut inside.
yeah fair one. I remember people used to slate Corluka. But I always thought he an Lennon worked well together.
Grateful for the points yesterday, which frankly were not deserved, but the midfield as a whole disappointed - especially in the first half. Bentaleb was ok, but there is too much responsibility being placed on his shoulders. Eriksen was anonymous and gets knocked off the ball far too easily. Paulinho gets the ball in promising positions but seems to run out of ideas or is on a different wavelength to colleagues. Dembele, for all his showy turns and apparent strength on the ball looks like a one trick pony and unable to see either the quick or the incisive pass. In short we need a lot more from all of these in the key areas. Capoue should have been on a lot sooner and we looked a lot more compact with him on. Not sure what has happened to Lennon in the last couple of matches. Is he carrying (another) injury? Walker didn't have a bad game defensively, but how many opportunities does one player need to cross the ball past the first man???? Lloris was arguably the only reason we were still in the game after 20 minutes and we have Ade to thank (again) for the points. God help us if he gets a knock or picks up a suspension.... And it was another **** journey home from the Lane!!
I wonder if the PL is to fast for Paulinho.Where he comes from they play slow......and....I read in a rag that Hugo was interesting a Spanish club (Real?). I guess we really are the Real Madrid talent club......perhaps they could send us some goal scorers on loan that are warming up their bench?
Lennon is carrying an injury, he shouldn't be in the team at the moment. We know how Lennon plays when match fit and playing without any fear but something isn't right with him.
I just think that he's being crowded out by a packed midfield with no width on the left, a fullback that cramps him and really slow buildup play.
Yeah, thats a fair shout, but he doesn't look himself, I could be wrong of course but maybe its time to give him a rest as we saw last season how great Lennon was when on form and there is no reason he can't get back to that level.
