Just listened to the pre-match bits & pieces from PT. Obviously keeping his cards close to his chest but Hewitt is the only absentee now....Even Whelps might make the squad for this Sat . Lingazni has trained and is also due to take his place on the train. Yes the team are travelling up by train tomorrow. Hope there are no leaves/landslips on the line!

    Im going

    NELSON
    HARRIMAN LEGGE DAVIES MARTIN
    SMITH GREGORY LINGANZI DACK
    BAYO CODY

BAXTER, PIGOTT, BARRETT, ***AN, HESS, WESTON, WHELPS

May have to squeeze Lee in their somewhere too but not sure who for

I think we need one experienced head in defence, so either Barrett, Davies, or barrett, Legge, I don't think a Davies, Legge partnership works.

Midfield I would have Gregory, Dack, Linganzi and one other, probably Hess as I think that was another PT mistake taking off Hess for ***an, Hess, Smith and Dack were forming a nice triangle with one touch passing which was causing Stevenage trouble.

The McBayo sandwich upfront is a given.

Will be listening on Gills Player for this game, travelling to Carlisle would send me absolutely stir crazy.

I will go with harryheadbutt's team but swap Linganzi for Hessy but you all know that's just me.

Is Linganzie fit? Thought he had tendinitis or something???

As I posters in another thread how about this?

    Bayo (FW), Cody (FW)

    Dack (CM), Hessenthaler (CM)

Harriman (LWB), Gregory (DCM), Martin (RWB)

Legge (CB), Davies (CB), Barrett (CB)

    Nelson (GK)

I think after Tuesday we have to put Barrett back into the team. Although I feel he is too weak at this level I am not sure if Davies and Legge work together after that performance on Tuesday.
I am a fan of Davies but I am not sure if he can be parred with Legge as they are too similar in their height and we could probably do with someone else to pair with either of them.
I think this shows that we need to sign a new centre back to replace Barrett as we lack depth when it comes to defence.

    Nelson

    Harriman
    Legge
    Barrett
    Martin

    Gregory

    Dack
    Linganzi
    Whelpdale

    Bayo
    McDonald

I think after Tuesday Smith should not be in the team as it sounds as if he didn't have the greatest game although he went close late on so I would put him back on the bench also if Linganzi is back then put Hessenthaler back on the bench and bring in Whelpdale if he is fit (Would be nice to see if he can get his form back).

PT really rates smith and i think he could be a top player for us (if not played at right back!) so i think he will remain in the team for tomorrows game, especially as Hewitt is out so Harriman drops back

I agree with Harryheadbutt. The manager rates Smith so I can see the following team. I doubt very much that Whelps will start as he's been out so long.

    ----------------------------------------------------Nelson---------------------------------------------------

    Harriman---------------------------Barrett------------------------Legge-------------------------Martin-------

    ----------------------------------------------------Gregory--------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------Linganzi----------------------Smith---------------------Dack--------------------------

    ----------------------------------Bayo-------------------------Cody------------------------------------------

The home fans are not too confident... (and dont rate their back 5 clearly!)

We could well struggle against Gillingham tomorrow.
With Akinfenwa's dominance and MacDonald's burst of pace, think they'll cause our pedestrian back four and Conference North standard goalkeeper no end of problems with their organised direct style.
    Comfortable away win.

I think Gillingham will line up as follows.......................

    --------------------------Nelson-----------------------------------
    Harriman-------Legge-----------------Barrett----------------Martin
    -------------------------Gregory----------------------------------
    ***an--------------------Smith--------------------------------Dack
    -------------McDonald---------------Akinfenwa---------------------

Subs: Baxter (GK), Davies, Hessenthaler, Lee, Whelpdale, Weston, Pigott

I know that Dack, ***an and Smith is a attacking trio and doesn't give us too much defensively in the middle of the park, but I don't think we have got the personal to sit back and try and defend and seeing as we really need to pick up all three points tomorrow then we mind as well go for it and try and pick up all three points, Cody McDonald and Adebayo Akinfenwa will be up-front and they are forming a very decent partnership and Dack has to start as he has assisted the last four goals Gillingham have scored.

I will be going to Carlisle tomorrow and that means I am up at 5AM so I can get the 6.30AM Coach, going to be a very long day but hopefully we can bring three points back with us from Cumbria - COME ON THE GILLS!!!!!!!!

I think they may be trying psychology on us, I've looked up their home form against teams in the bottom halve of the table and it's better than ours.

    Gillingham P 6, W 3, D 1, L 2, points 10.
    Carlisle P 6, W 4, D 1, L 1, points 13.

Our record is not great up there,so I would take a draw today.

Excellent result 1-2 to Gills and up to 11th in the league. Only 10 points off the play offs <whistle>

If we didn't keep losing to teams in a the relegation fight we'd be even closer. Please don't let us play a team sitting at the foot of the table again.

I listened to the game on Gills player, and Carlisle could have scored in the first minute when Miller hit the side netting, they seemed to have the better of the first half, but we snatched a goal just before half-time through Pigott. The second half it did seem like Carlisle were putting us under a lot of pressure,Amoo was the player mentioned the most. They said Cody had a stonewall penalty turned down,so it would have been horrible for us had Drennan`s shot a few minutes late gone in,luckily it came back out off the inside of the post.We were hanging on a bit,but Cody grabbed the second goal which looked like it would ease our nerves at 2-0.A minute late Legge scored an own goal to give us fans the usual nervy finish.Carlisle came close in stoppage time when Byrne`s header was saved by Nelson. The whistle went and it was a decent win,our first win at Carlisle since 1993,and first goal we had scored at Brunton Park since 1997! I`m pleased for the 194 fans that travelled.

We have a break now,so its great that we can relax and go into the break knowing we have won. We`re on 38 points,so we need four wins and a couple of draws to stay up I reckon.

The break will be crucial for two reasons -
    1) It will obviously give the boys a break which at this time is vital as legs will be tired after such a hectic xmas/ new year schedule
    2) It will put us in a realistic position, I hate to be pessimistic but currently the table lies, after the teams around us catch up a bit then we can actually see what we have to do, (or maybe more importantly not do) before the end of the season. Good result and Im sure were safe but never a bad idea to be grimly realistic with the Gills!

    I'm always doing the stats and for those that haven't realised our recent record has gone;

    W - Carlisle
    L - Stevenage
    W - Port Vale
    L - Brentford
    W - Swindon
    L - Colcehster
    W - Wolves

    WLWLWLW

I hope we can break that sequence against Sheffield United.

I would not be surprised if we break it against Sheffield United but probably with a draw however correct me if I am wrong but our recent record at home is pretty good with 3 wins in a row so a chance of getting back to back wins for the second time this season and first time under Peter Taylor probably couldn't come at a better time.

Don't underestimate Sheffield United under Nigel Clough. He's a shrewd manager and they have definitely improved under him.

They had definitely improved compared to when I watched us pull off a historic win at their place, easy win for sheffield in my opinion.
