I don't think Redmond is anywhere near England and probably never will be. He's just not got enough strings in his bow and the important skills needed would at least show signs of being there. Being quick and beating someone occasionally is nowhere near enough.
To be fair to him, his touch is good and when you say "beating someone occasionally" I seem to remember there was a stat in December that at the time Redmond had completed more successful take ons than any other player in the Prem. He hasn't played so much recently so that's probably gone down, but still he is incredibly good at it. Otherwise I agree with you. Mind, he still has time to add more string to his bow and I notice he took corners in Snodders absence
Redmond have a lot of potential and will just keep on improving with age. Not quite ready for England, but hopefully he will in the future.
The question is though should Redmond be encouraged to pass the ball because of his poor finishing? or would that harm his development as a player?
It sounds like a lame answer but he should be encouraged to make the right decision. Sometimes shooting is th right decision and on those occasions he should keep doing so. But all players make mistakes - Pilks' decision at the end might have got us three points if he'd found RvW (and might have restored some confidence too...)
After that frankly ridiculous Feed the Wolf marketing blunder by NCFC, i would not want to put any more pressure on our young stars by filling their heads with things other than the next 90 mins of football . Redmond has hardly set the league on fire so far .
That's far too simplistic yesterday his shot was a bit wild however his shot at Cardiff was very good and forced and excellent save. In fact yesterday Pilks was more guilty of poor decision making when he shot over instead of a relatively easy pass to an unmarked RvW. Its the decision making and composure that needs improving.
Totally agree. I think it was BJ who once passed the ball to RvW, instead of playing it into the space in front of him so that the could run on to it. We really need to take lessons from how Liverpool played yesterday and scored most of their goals from balls being played for players to run on to.
Redmond reminds me a bit of Aaron Lennon - skips past people for fun but that's it - queue China's "beautiful woman in bar story". I think he could be better than Lennon eventually and be at Stirling's level but it's all about the shooting/delivery coaching over the next year or two. Frankly, he's not ready yet - his high & wide effort in the first half on Saturday was appalling but sadly not atypical.
