You are East, but are not, and will never, be North. Not in my book anyway. Southerners eh?

    Nice bridge, though.

Was thinking this myself. Hull might be in the north-eastern quarter of England, but it is definitely not in the North -East. I would class Carlisle as local rivals before I ever thought of Hull that way.

That's not to take away from the fact you're having a decent season and that you've had some good results!

I'm a traditionalist and don't believe in the term 'north-east' at all - it's a relatively recent appellation. For me, the northern part of England includes Lancashire, Yorkshire and the North (Cumbria, Northumberland, Durham). I'd be very happy to include north and east Yorkshire in a new semi-autonomous region of the UK known as Northumbria, with the capital in Newcastle (amalgamated with Gasteshead) of course.

How can Coventry be in the West Midlands and yet Newcastle, which is further west, can be described as the north-east? And how can a region that narrows to 60 miles from coast to coast be described as having an east and west in the same way as the south, where the distance is 360 miles?

So good luck to Hull City. You've done had a great season and I wish you well, but you're in Yorkshire not the north-east.

Yorkshire and the Humber is the recognised region in which Hull resides by pretty much every measure. So no, you are not, unless you want to uproot the whole city.

    Good result yesterday though... :emoticon-0148-yes:

For me I struggle to think of Middlesboro' as the North East, never mind Hull.

Gasteshead? That's almost as bad as classing Hull in the North East.

It's much too good to be used as a Parliament building.
