I'm moving back to the UK, this spring, and am totally out of touch ........ after 15 years abroad this will be like emigrating. I'm just looking, on the internet, at Sky packages etc which include the sports channels, phone line and internet. It's coming in around at about £60 a month for the lot, including unlimited landline calls. Is there owt better or is this the best option?
A few reasons marra. I've done virtually everything you could possibly do here, we've had speedboats and taken private helicopters etc but the family are all in the UK. Doing all this stuff without them isn't quite the same thing. Grandkids are appearing which makes it hard for my lads to get down here, as the kids get older they'll struggle even more. I'd also like to be closer for the matches, it costs me about £800 a pop for every match and no bugger flies into East Midlands from Nice which means a hire car from London. You can't fly into Newcastle through the winter which is obviously when I need to for the games. I sometimes have to fly Nice-Geneva then on to Newcastle. The French are driving me ****ing nuts as well tbh, miserable sods most of them and the Brits all come and go so there's no stability. The main reason, though, is that we toured the Mediterranean for 6 months last summer and when the ferry came into Nice it just didn't feel like home any more. No idea why but you can't fight your true feelings can you?
Guess not mate. I do miss it at times in all honesty, which i guess explains as to why i am on here so much. I have and still do have some plans about Sunderland, we'll see if they come off, who knows. I've spent most of my adult life away from home, with about 10 years there in the last 28 or so. I have not been home for over 3 years now. It's hard for a Fulwell lad to try and fit in with all the talk on here about football etc. It's the closest thing i have to being there, if you know what i mean? So i can understand a little why you are doing it, just maybe i'm not ready for it yet.
Same with me mate, it's like being at home when I'm talking to other Sunderland lads or the likes of PaulPower or Typical Terry. I don't mix with the French because it's pointless, they're way too insular, and I don't like the bombastic professional Brits down here. I can't watch matches in the expat bars because it usually ends in a brawl. My fault, to be truthful, but I can't abide plastic fans shouting in my face and taking the piss. Even if they believe it's 'just a bit of fun' they end up on their arse and I end up with a ban I'm 58 mate and it's just time to go home and be with the family, get back from the match 2 hours after the end and not 2 days I'll need a new username mind!
I would do mate but they banned me for fighting fire with fire ....... they can't all take a bit of banter like you
It's like a club of window lickers,no wonder it's only parasites looking to take them on Always been a horrible club
Where you going to settle Smug? Am I right a lot of family around Mansfield? BTW - I've got Sky for broadband / phone / etc. Some good offers from them around - I just hate their dominance of sport! x
Sort of, I have enough for me and my 3 sons but I still need two anywhere in the ground. I'd happily pay £250 a ticket if you hear of anything mate.
Yes mate, Mansfield area ...... my lads, and some good Sunderland mates, so we might get the minibus organised again No away match is more than 3/4 hours from Mansfield so it's as good as anywhere. Would prefer Durham but it's not practical these days. I hate Sky but it seems like the best deal ...... cheers for the advice.
The mods would never allow them. The problem is that, if I change my name from Smug, the clever wits, on here, won't be able to drop the 'S' and call me Mug. Oh how people have laughed at that over the years
