Exactly. IIRC Smith was fantastic in the early part of the season, and Guthrie was class in the second half. I remember Nolan scoring the majority of his goals away from home when being played behind AC. Not taking anything away from him like, fantastic captain both on and off the pitch and he will always be welcome here. Good luck to him, just hope we can replace his goals.

    Agreed.

It's a very easy hypothetical to throw out there.

Somewhere between cult hero and legend. Do we have a name for that?
    We'll call it the Nolan

He's a big Nolan he is
He'll never be a Nolan in my eyes!
This new signing could turn out to be quite a Nolan!

    :)

Was just about to post something similar myself.

I'd add SuperMac & Pedro to that list

Why in my head did that come out like Gollum in Lord of the Rings screaming "I'm not listening! I'm not listening!"

Tash, seriously not having a pop mate but you need to read up on the history of the club, we've had some great players over the years (even before 2006 or whenever it was you started going to games)
One season in the Championship is/was not a crucial time in our clubs existence. Nolan served us well for 2 and a half seasons, lets not forget we were relegated in the first half season he was with us and in the Championship for the next. Hardly legendary.

And also Steve Harper's been at the club longer than Shola.

I might get lynched for this, but i'd say Shola is probably closer to being a club legend than Nolan is.

I'm with you on this one, though I agree that Shola is a legend for the derby/CL goals and, of course, the comedy value.

Things I will remember Nolan for

    Hat trick against Sunderland
    Funky chicken dance
    Being Carroll's guardian
Being sick on the side of the pitch during a championship match

  17. And scoring 30 goals.

Shola is marmite, but you can't say he's not had as many moments as Nolan?

    Scoring against the Mackems.
    Scoring against Barca.
Scoring more goals in Europe than the Mackems ever have.
The occasional piece of technical brilliance.
    The hat-trick against Reading.
    His face mask.

Obviously it's completely pointless trying to reason with someone who hates Shola, wishes Mike Ashley dead, enjoys looking up 15 year old lasses on the internet and wanting advice on how to swoon his height hogging friend....

Out of curiosity, is this you??
