Shame about the wages some players would demand. Maybe frees from Championship sides may be the way forward, with loan deals, if possibe, from Premier League sides who would be willing to chip in towards wages.
From that list, and being realistic, I would love to see Gera, Giles Barnes, and Hanhemann come in. The one thing we lacked in midfield last season was a creative spark. With hogg and mullins we had 2 mids who were happy to be more defensive. Ward wasnt at a high enough level (hopefully he can start to really push on this season), and Lawro was injured alot and when he wasnt was on the right, not really creating in the middle. I reckon Barnes could add something we have been missing. On a more wishful note, I would love to see Benji back.
Bringing Benjani back would be a priority to me if I were the Pompey boss - I think he should never have left in the first place - but could we afford his wages?
Realistically all of the players listed, Upson, Kamara, Gudjohnson, Benjani, Campbell, Woodgate, Dyer, Elmander are all WELL out of our league. They will either join another Premier League club, move abroad or sign for a top championship club... i.e West Ham or Birmingham. However, there are some free transfers that we stand a realistic chance.. Hahnemann, Pantsil, possibly even John Carew. Richard Kingson, Marlon Harewood, Seb Larson, Kuqi, Zenden, and Rooney not Wayne, Daniel Rooney, released on a free from Wolves Heard from the reliable sky sports that Ibrahima Sonko has been released by Stoke- Cotts- please don't bring him back!!! On a positive note- David Norris has signed for us permaneantly, hopefully followed by many more.. any ideas who??
theres alot of quality there!!! most out of our league could pick a good mid table prem team out of that!!!
----------------hahnemann----------------- faye-----Gabbidon------Upson------woodgate Gera-----Reo-Coker-----Vieira -----Gardner ----------Gudjohnsen---Kamara------------- you could probibly do better but thats not a bad team and i didn't use retired players!!!!
Sorry but your wrong. It's never too late to worry over what you club can afford in terms of wages, especially when you club has recently gone through a period of extremely bad financial management that almost cost the club its existance. Having gone through that and not knowing much about the new owners it is only natural that you'll worry about the club operating within its means.
