I read that as having a dig at our board, which suppose is expected. Nothing nasty in the article itself.

Spouting the same generic footballer tripe when joining a new club, not sure about them being a massive club though!!!! (Not that I think we are some massive club either)

The guy has a family to support so you can't blame him for wanting job security. Best of luck Kev and thanks for all your hard work in the last two years.

What's the betting he'd have stayed if Carroll hadn't gone?

    good bye to him.

he seems rather happy getting an extra £5k a week, nice thing to show fans nolan and young fans too.

thats 2 footballers in 6 months that after doing a school run, my nephew being one, telling them that he was happy at newcastle and wanted to play for ever, and couldnt wait to see the kids at games, buying new strips etc (yes us adults know thats utter bullocks) but to a 6-7 year olds that means a lot to them....

Definite dig. He has to say all the other crap, so you can more or less ignore that for actual reasons. The true reasons are the ones he doesn't have to say (e.g. linking up with FSA and the board wanting him - and in particular offering him 'security'

Yip - and the guy could probably retire now and still have enough £'s sloshing around to live in the lap of luxury for the rest of his life.

So unless he supports his family with gold plated steaks for dinner every night, I'm not buying that. Sorry, chief.

2 Years left on current contract with a further 2 if we get 7th or above is what we offered him.

That to me is ambition and a work related incentive, we all have targets at work.

Now he can go to West Ham and doesn't have to worry about putting the effort in and get paid more!!

Hear Sullivan and Gold took out a personal loan to buy him, to me they are taking a huge risk. If they don't get promotion they'll struggle with expensive players on their books. So not that much job security in my eyes

Just a perfect example of modern day footballers.

He's also realised he isn't good enough for EPL anymore IMHO.

I'm just astounded that he's dropped down to a team in the Championship. He's sacrificed playing with and against some of the best players in the world. He's gave up playing in what many would call the best league in the world to play in the bloody Championship.

    The mind boggles.

Yeah because after all we were only going to pay him £7.8m over the next three years. How could he have possibly supported his family on that! Footballers are just not in touch with reality and must think we are complete fools to be offered that sort of nonsense as an excuse.

I think ABBA said it best when referring to the benjamins...

Money, money, money. Must be funny. In a rich man's world.

Don't think it was about money as much as it was about job security (contract length) and feeling appreciated by your employers.

    ^ This ^

If he was on the published £40k per week then in the 3 years that he has been with us he would have earned around £6 million. With a further £4 million if he had stayed for the next 2 years.

Most of us wouldn't mind that type of insecurity.

This is not a dig at Kevin Nolan, I wish him all the very best with his career and thank him for what he has done for NUFC in the last 2 years.

I think it was Roy Keane who once said to Manure when negotiating a new contract that he needed £120k per week to feed his family. How big is your family Roy? The whole of Africa???
