The president of Kazakhstan has apparently suggested changing the country's name, saying the "stan" at the end puts off tourists and discourages investors. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-news-from-elsewhere-26082740 Stan is a lousy suffix.
Wouldn't that be like dropping "land" from England....Now that really is a short and catchy name,Eng.It would certainly save time typing when everyone is moaning about Hodgson being a muppet. At least he seems a bit more sympathetic to other views. But don't expect Kazakhstan to rename itself any time soon. Mr Nazarbayev - who has held power since independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 - says such a change would only come about after a discussion with the people.
If he really wants to attract tourists then he shouldnt take the stan out of the name he should just rename the country San Diego.
In a country like Kazakhstan you don't want to hear the president saying that his opponents can die if they want to.
