With a lot of discussion being focused on the left back position at the moment, I was wondering what has happened to Matthew Briggs ?

For along time he was being touted as man to take over the left back spot. Perhaps more defensive than a marauding wing back, his performances were mixed. That said I think he showed a lot of promise.

It would seem he had a operation on a hernia at the end of September last year. Strongly enough I am in the process of waiting to have a hernia operation myself and can confirm playing football with a hernia is a no go. I have read up on the aftermath of this particular procedure and there are mixed results. Some say it has been great whilst others have had big set backs. So I wonder if master Briggs has suffered some complications.

He tweeted recently that he was training back with the team so hopefully he is on the road to recovery.

Anyone got a heads up on his situation

I'm not sure of his situation regarding the injury but I'm highly doubtful he's the solution to our problems. His defensive capabilities leave a lot to be desired. He could however be a decent player on the left wing. He's got pace and is a lot stronger than Kaca. I'd rather see him there than at LB.

I must admit, I'd more or less discounted Matthew Briggs from ever making an impact for us again, but thinking back to the Europa campaign in Jol's first season, he was playing well on the left of midfield - I even recall someone describing him as 'our Gareth Bale'. Given the difficulties we've been having on the left, he's not the worst option we've got for either of those positions. I guess it all depends on his fitness and - just as important - his state of mind at the moment. After Tuesday night, it's important that we pick eleven who haven't already given up.

Not sure which "team" he's talking about. So far as I'm aware SEE stands for 'Share, Engage, Enlighten' and is something to do with developing your creativity and using it in social circles. Involves music so Matt would be well up for that.

Apparently he's been over in Germany a lot, presumably seeing (sic!) the physo there, which would suggest complications with his rehab.
