No, not the curse of the Manager Of The Month! http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...et-and-johnson-nominated-for-awards-1-6423236 Sunderlandâs Poyet and Johnson nominated for awards GUS POYET and Adam Johnson are in the running to receive recognition for Sunderlandâs January purple patch. Sunderland boss Poyet led the Black Cats to seven points from four league games last month, while also steering the club into the Capital One Cup final and the fifth round of the FA Cup. That has led to Poyet making the four-man shortlist for the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month award, along with Manchester Cityâs Manuel Pellegrini, Chelseaâs Jose Mourinho and Crystal Palaceâs Tony Pulis. Johnson was the key figure for Sunderland during the most successful month of the campaign so far, with his goal in last weekendâs Tyne-Wear derby his seventh in as many games. The winger, who will hope to impress England boss Roy Hodgson in this weekendâs clash with Hull City, is nominated for the Player of the Month prize along with Arsenalâs Santi Cazorla, Liverpoolâs Luis Suarez and Man Cityâs Yaya Toure.
Seriously mate, if he keeps us up 'after being bottom for ages', wins the league cup and gets some bang average players turning on the style they have then ................... In fact, **** that, what am I saying ......... they're not really that average are they? Apart from the likes of Gardner & Seb most of the players are actually quite good. The fact he kept Cattermole and brought in Bridcutt suggests that Poyet knows as well as we do how poor they are. Bridcutt fills in perfectly when Colback goes forward and I hope we can now get him to sign a new contract.
Every pundit in the world seems to have forgotten that we were bottom at xmas & if we escape then only us & the baggies have ever done that, and they only needed like 34 points or something and were still bottom at the start of the last day of the season!
This is purely from memory, and it's a while back, but I don't think they were ever as far behind 4th place as Sunderland. It wasn't that West Brom played that well, there were 3 other clubs that ****ed it up and snatched relegation with both hands.
Purely from Google... The season WBA went down they went out of the FA cup in the 4th round and league cup 2nd round. It was the first season since the premier league begun that no team had been relegated by the final game of the season. At Christmas they were 8pts from safety (does anybody know what we were?). It shows just how much of an achievement Gus is in the middle of pulling off.
This is purely from memory, and my season spreadsheet... I believe that we were 6 points from safety at xmas.
I've just checked, we were both wrong. On xmas day we were 5 points from safety according to the Prem League website. http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/...ate=1387843199999&tableView=CURRENT_STANDINGS
