Before York decided on that York City Soccer Club nonsense, they came up with a big Y on their shirts, that earned them the nickname 'The Y-Fronts'. It's still on their badge... please log in to view this image
Did York's name ever officially change? I was under the impression their owner 'did an Assem', and simply altered the badge of his own accord and started referring to them by a different name.
They should have signed Rui Marques, then they commentator could mention this kid Marques in the Y fronts.
Thanks but I cant take any credit for the video. All I did was suggest my family link may be of use in the history & heritage angle in December, CTWD guys asked if I'd do it ! My son & I just gave a day to record it. All credit goes to CTWD but im very grateful to have had chance to play a part!
Hmm from Exileds post on CI. Thats the Exiled who is running the campaign for CTWD, presentations etc???? Is this a FACT?? Timescale to coincide with City of Culture in 2017?? "Exiled The sociadad model is the same as that enjoyed by the likes of Barcelona and many other top teams in Europe. Instead of a season ticket fans buy a membership to the club which enables them to attend every home game, apply for away game tickets and vote at club elections. The principal elections are those of a president and honorary Vice Presidents whose role is mainly ceremonial. The crucial factor is that such people can donate money to the club as a gift (not a loan) during their term in office - typically 5 years. Alternating between presidential elections the board members would be elected democratically as per the president and would enjoy a fixed term of five years deliberately staggered with the president to eliminate cronyism and produce stability of direction. These positions would be professional and given that this would probably be the most exciting project of this nature in the world of football should attract world class individuals with a track record of prior achievement at the level we aspire to safe in the knowledge they would be able to get on with their job free from interference. Ultimately they would be answerable to the members and the elections. Their principal challenge would be to leverage the unique approach (for the premier league) to attract world class commercial revenue and market the club as the 'deliberately different' option from the city famous for having that ethic in our culture. We would become most thinking peoples 'second club'. With the ability to attract international figures to the president position as a shop window for the very highest level of globally visible philanthropy it should not take long to have a list of suitable candidates. Annual associate memberships would be available globally for anyone wishing to join the project and buy into the values and ethos of Hull City AFC. For that membership they would get an exclusive item that identifies them as a member and would be informed regularly of progress via exclusive media content only available to members. Most Sociedad clubs operate a number of sports and sports facilities so the AA vision of a sports village perhaps spread to YPI could see other sports such as squash being promoted under the same umbrella. With support from the council the club could expand the stadium and offer a 'day member' package to floating fans that do not have voting rights but would be principally aimed at lower incomes and 'tourists' keen to see the project - the first of its kind in the Premier league - for real. With a season limit to the number of games that can be attended via this model and the lure of voting rights members will have enough to differentiate what they are getting for their extra money. The projects timescales should of course be aligned to our city of culture celebrations. AA's legacy would be forever assured and the club would have to negotiate with Allamhouse for the size of the 'gift' given to get us to this point (debt written off) and payback terms for the rest. With a sociadad model every player would know that essentially they would be playing for the fans and every member would and could expect players to give their all for the shirt. The only condition would be that all this must be done as HULL CITY AFC est. 1904 Thoughts??
No wonder I'm confused. So CTWD is just about the name change.....for now. But in the future it will be about fan ownership ?
I thought CTWD were going for a Swansea model? You know, owner hates manager, manager hates owner, club does pretty well, owner sacks manager, club plummets back down but is "owned" in part by the supporters? An example to look up to indeed. I'm curious about something, CITWD keep banging on about how Dr Allam can't walk away, he'd lose money, he'd have to write off money which he won't do etc, but who could come in and buy the club with no debt write off? How much money would a Trust need to raise? Break that figure down to individual amounts for me if they were added onto a season ticket? Seriously think that could ever happen in Hull? Getting fans to stump up the kind of cash needed for this ownership thing is a fantasy. Throwing some coins in a bucket won't save the club or make it profitable either, times have changed a bit, our long term future and success rest entirely with Dr Allam, as they did when he stepped up and no one else did. I don't recall anyone beating his door down to buy him out since either. I still think the main problem is the HCC, yet I doubt there will be any campaigns organised to remove them will there?
The understanding is that it will function as an unofficial supporters' group if and after its main goal is achieved, and that there is no pressure from within or outside the group for them to push for ownership (or a stake in) the club. It's just something that might one day happen through this particular fan group, as fan ownership is the desire of Mr Allam himself. I'm amazed it's taken so many people so long to grasp these basic points, especially as they tend to be the same people who cast aspersions on the motives behind the CTWD founders and members (see 'Happy Tiger's above comment for evidence of this )
I was responding to the entire farcical discussion about 'But then we won't have a nickname because it can't be a nickname if it's in our official name, cos no one else has it.' I only quoted yours because it was the last one in the chain.
I think there are campaigns with the possibility of removing council members that are organised on a fairly regular basis.Why not get involved in one of them?
