Anyone, even moyes would have achieved great things witg that Barcelona side.

I imagine peps team talks were very quiet. Right at the last second he'd tell his players to play their game and pass the ball to Messi as often as possible.

The second leg of the Chelsea Barca tie in 2012 showed he was completely devoid of a plan B, luckily for him, the plan A and the players at his disposal were so good for the most part.

Your point being that RDM being in charge of Chelsea for 3 months and leading someone else's team to the CL was better than Peps achievement because Barca were a better team when he took over?

Pretty much.

RDM's C.L victory is more impressive than Pep's in 09 for instance, when a ref's blatant incompetence got them into the final. What would the odds of RDM taking Chelsea to a C.L final be when 3-1 down to Napoli (when he took over)? Let alone then having to negotiate past Benfica, Barca and Bayern on their own turf. Yeah Pep doing it with the World's best team (and still needing the ref) was amazing. ;)

That Pep hasn't won the Champions League whilst being the underdog with a lesser side and defying the odds.

Chelsea would have been underdogs even if Mourhino was in charge at the time due to playing Bayern in their own back yard and Bayern's better record in European competition.

I know mate, don't get your point there? It wasn't just due to that either, Bayern/Barca had far superior sides to ours.

Just saying Pep has always had the best squad on the planet during his time as manager unlike the managers mentioned by 100.

Not dissing Chelsea's achievement but RDM's part in it was on a minor scale compared to a top European manager like Pep who has done it more than once off his own bat.

Some managers buy their successes and some managers inherit top teams and some interim managers get lucky with someone else's team doing the business when it matters.

The CL win was Chelsea's not RDM' s and the players that night would have played and won no matter who was wearing the suit(even JT).<ok>

That clueless 442 tactic has banged every other premier league team this season at the Eitihad, including yours. If it's so easy to counter then why is no one else capable?

Who are the 2 best teams that have visited the Etihad this season? I think you know the answer to that.

Using our shambles of a side this season, who also played a 442 there, doesn't really prove anything. When they have come up against quality sides playing a 451 they've come unstuck, as they've been able to take advantage of the extra man.

They also played with 2 big target men against Chelsea, had they had Aguero he would have probably dropped in abit and helped his side gain abit more control in midfield. If they go 442 with Dzeko and Negredo up front in the Champions League they will get torn apart.

SAF used to play a 442 domestically against most sides, but he learnt over the years that you had to play a 451 against the best teams in Europe. Think back to the last time a team won the Champions League playing a 442. football has evolved since then

Really?
And it has nothing to do with Bayern becoming a stronger team?
2 reasons for Barca's downfall from the top and none of them involve managers.
1) Other teams (ie Bayern for one) strengthening.
2) People learnt how to play against Barca and beat them. When Pep is successful somewhere else where he doesnt have the best players on the planet, then I'll be impressed

People did not learn to play against Barca under Pep, as the only teams that ever beat them where Inter and Chelsea, who used backs to the wall tactics, and got through with a huge degree of luck. Football isn't a game were the best team always wins, as we see games all the time when 1 side has 39 shots at goal and doesn't score. Look at your game against West Ham for proof if you need it.

Bayern have got better, but Barca's tactics aren't the same since Pep left. The front 3 are far lazier these days, and don't press sides with the same intensity as they used to under Pep, and that is down to the manager not getting the same level of performance out of his players. No player enjoys running around chasing down the ball, so it's down to the manager to make sure they do it.

Messi has also become a slight hindrance on his side, compared to what he was under Pep, as he constantly comes deep to collect the ball, leaving no one in the box, so the midfield pushes forward so there's someone in the box, but when they lose the ball there are massive gaps in midfield, as Messi isn't gonna cover them defensively, and the likes of Fabregas and Iniesta are to far forward to cover which leaves them exposed.

This would have never happened under Pep, as he was big enough to handle big players like Messi, and made sure he did the role in the team that he wanted him to do. Not the role that Messi wants to do

What about mourinho and inter?

That for me tops anything pep achieved with Barcelona.

How about Mourinho at Real Madrid then? He clearly couldn't keep all the big players there happy, in the same way Pep could at Barcelona. Even Ronaldo a fellow countryman thought he was a tosser, and sided with his team mates to force Mourinho out the door.

It's alright being strict with your players, but you've also got to make sure you don't go over the top with it like Mourinho did at Real, or you run the risk of losing the dressing room.

Mourinho bit off more than he could chew at Real, so whilst his achievements at Porto and Inter are impressive, he failed the biggest challenge of his career at Madrid, where he had to deal with the biggest players. That's why Pep gets the nod over Mourinho for me, as he's better at keeping big name players happy

What did he do? Other than be there at the right time?

Nobody is saying hes ****, just that the fact he had 3 of tge worlds 5 best players peak at the same time was a massive help that few, if any manager has ever had.

The fact his assistant and then some randomer have basically continued this (domestically at least) shows that his job wasnt exactly difficult.

To suggest hes the best manager in the world is laughable. The only reason his successors havent had the same level of European success is purely down to xavi getting past his best and Messi being out injured. Take those 2 from peps teams and you get the same outcome.

I never said anything of the sort..................but carry on.

According to every citeh supporter I've spoken to, we should have won, never mind "got something there" <ok>

Well they were blowing smoke up yer arse big fella.

You were maybe worthy of a point, but they had more possession, shots & most importantly..........goals mate

Just a ridiculous comparison.

What the **** has this all got to do with the coaching of United?

Shouldn't this tedious ****e be on the other thread best team in the world or other such ****e?

Anyway you're all ****s <ok>

He still took a title off Pep's Barca, had a very good el classico record and reached 2 or 3 C.L semi finals (cant remember for sure), losing 1 on pens. Hardly a massive failure. Moyes would kill for that kind of record!
