    Hi guys,

My "promotional" deal on sky has expired now and they are playing hardball and will only offer me a 30% reduction in cost, which I know they can do much better with.

So I cancelled and it has all turned off today which is quite hard actually and I am thinking of trying bt or talk talk. Although I would rather stay with sky.

Has anyone got experience of the other providers or if you wait will sky call you and offer something better?

BT is pretty good value and you get about 5 sports channels in HD.

Kempy, I go through it every year,

    Deal comes to an end,

I ring up and try to extend it,

    they say no,

    I cancel,

    They switch off,

    I stop direct debit,

They send letter saying it could result in extra charges,

Sky sales ring up and ask if I consider renewing,

I say yeah at my old rate,

They say OK, and i get the full TV package for £27.50 a month!

The most important part is stopping the direct debit!

The real kicker is that if you switch to virgin they will disconnect your BT phone line and if you then wish to switch to anyone else its a £120-130 reconnection for starters. So I would tend to avoid them.

Allot of friends have said that the customer services they have had from BT have been worse than abysmal, that said as the main competitor to sky's share they are who I quoted as the switch to provider with my last discount negotiation.

Guru, what if any broadband/phone package do you have? and is that included in the price? I can't believe it is especially if you have sport included in the TV as I haven't been able to get near that price inc unlimited BB and line rental, even on the best discounts I have been offered.

    Bah!

    No lie,

I had sky tv, full hd pack, sports, kids, movies, documentaries, entertainment pack....The full works basically.

I had this FREE for 6 months! I didn't even ask for it, they called me as I had been with them for 5 years.

Before that I had it for about £37 a month. Now they want £68 a month.

No broadband and phone, i get that through BT.

Basically what happened with me is I got a leaflet through the door saying old customers can half price TV package for a year, so i took it up and every year when i get to to the end I cancel if they don't extend i cancel and they always cave-in.

I really don't see what the fuss is about. It costs you more for less with Virgin and my mate who went to talktalk spent weeks talking to Indian gentlemen on premium rate lines, was left for weeks with just the free channels and when talktalk eventually sorted it out and mentioned a couple of extras not mentioned before realised he would pay more than he had with Sky. He went back to Sky. I get BT free because I already have their broadband and phone but if you haven't the price is |£12 a month for 2 sports channels and I know for a fact that fee is not negotiable. There is nothing worth watching on the free channels apart from the news channels, Mrs Brown's Boys, the sport and a few documentaries - everything I watch is on Sky.
I have been with Sky since their first football deal emerged. I pay monthly, have never queried or quibbled about the price, have every channel available including all the add ons such as Sky+, HD and Sky Connect ( over 800 extra movies and more box sets than I could ever get through ) and all for £67.50 a month - just over £2 a day. What is that? Half a pint of bitter - a large bag of crisps costs £1 in our clubhouse. As far as my family is concerned Sky IS AN ABSOLUTE BARGAIN even at the full price.

I think nearly £400ish quid saved over a year something, thats a decent holiday in the UK.

I suppose it depends who you are.

I never pay full price for anything, that's just how I am. I'm like it with business and everything.

I almost got asked to leave the Audi showroom when I went in to order my new car!

    It's just me!

Personally I do not think there is such a thing as a decent holiday in the UK let alone one for £400. The last short break I had in this Country not involving staying with friends/family was a 3 night stay in London with Mrs 1950. With hotel, meals, taxis, 1 visit to the theatre, 1 concert, 1 ballet performance, rail fares and visits to museums and Art galleries etc the cost came to well in excess of £1000 - £300 more than a similar break to Rome 6 months later. Don't even get me going on the weather, service, quality, facilities, cleanliness etc. A cup of proper coffee on a sunny terrace or a cup of cheap instant in an overcrowded café watching the rain pour down - just give me a few seconds to work that one out!!!

I was talking more the accomadation 1950, you could get a lovely break down in cornwall which is one of the most beautiful parts in the country, or the peak district, or the new forest, or even the lovely north norfolk coast.

A holiday is just one example, it could just be spent treating the grand kids, anythings better than lining the pocket of Murdoch!

We have been on Sky what 3 times this season? If they had a deal where they air every Norwich game then i would subscribe but i ditched Sky the last time we were relegated choosing to watch the Championship matches at the pub.
Probably the worse thing for me if we get relegated is the lack of live matches online or on TV.

At least we wouldn't be last on the MotD every week. We'd probably be first on the FLS most weeks!
