    From the beeb website:

Kevin Pietersen: Batsman's England career over

Kevin Pietersen's England career is over after he was told he is no longer in their plans.
The 33-year-old batsman, England's leading run-scorer in all formats, was informed this week by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
ECB managing director Paul Downton said: "The time is right to rebuild not only the team but also the team ethic."
Pietersen said: "I will continue to play but deeply regret that it won't be for England."

    Interesting quote ??

The biggest mistake England made was bringing him back after his last fall-out. He has always ended up falling out with whoever he's played with/for and he was involved in a big bust-up that came to physical blows in Australia according to reports. No doubt he'll bitch his way through the papers in the next few days...

It's a real shame but we may never know what's gone on behind closed doors, he is after all a very arrogant man. The Aussies call him FIG JAM - **** I'm good just ask me!

i think he was a bit of a let down this ashes tour. i believe he should have played the role haddin did for the aussie. which was come in and steady the ship. he did a few times but far too often he throw away his innings far too cheaply. a great player but like oh so many sportsmen he is a dick and to make it worst he is ****ing chelsea

Good player but not a team player as England have found out on many occasions, when the time comes to knuckle down he doesn't too selfish, I glad they have made this stance & now groom some younger players & start again, may take a bit of time like the Aussies have but that's the way forward.

There should be few more join him after that tour. It wasn't all his fault.
Cook might be a good bat but he's not a captains' clacka.

Who cares ? Cricket totally sucks, surely the most boring, uneventful game yet devised by mankind, hence very few countries even bother to participate. Aside from hundreds of hours of cheap coverage for BBC2 for the unemployed or retired, or people in India, who have clearly yet to discover football and where the temperature might just make cricket a more tolerable option, it serves no purpose whatsoever. Ban it I say.

That's why the title was labelled "OT".

If your not interested in the "OT" subject ignore it. Posting banal comments like that is pretty crass.

Based on the activity on the "OT - Ashes" threads there was enough people interested in cricket for this news to be of interest to this board.

People may not like cricket in general but those who have played it, combined with the Poms & Aussies who follow it ................. anyone will tell you nothing else matters ( other forms of cricket ) but don't try to take away The Ashes.

Regardless of which team is better, the series nearly always proves to be exciting, one way or another.

You can take your T20, IPL, Big Bash etc, Test Cricket is the purest form of the game & I have loved it since I was a young lad.
To say only a hand of of countries play cricket is crap, more & more teams are trying to enter/qualify for World Cups every year & is rapidly expanding around the globe.

Don't know a whole lot about cricket but I love turning on R4 during the Ashes and listening to the commentators, classic old world eccentric conversation with snippets of action thrown in. Stopping for tea and a position called silly mid off in this day and age makes me feel all's right with the world.
