I've got no complaints with that. Carroll got two assists himself, and Swansea couldn't handle him from the first minute to the minute he got sent off.
Have to feel sorry for him for that sending off. Chico Flores climbing all over him. Not sure if that swing of the arm was meant to hit him or not, it didn't connect and chico should have been booked twice; holding and simulation.
What a lovely report. Almost wish I'd written such glowing words: http://pickourteam.com/premierleagu.../southamptons-front-three-back-in-form/869613
Some praise for good old Morgan here - http://www.squawka.com/news/2014/02...hamptons-dismantling-of-fulham/2014020364271?
You can't blame Howard Webb for sending him off though. From where he was standing, it looked as though Carroll tried to swing his arm into Chico's face. I don't think it will be rescinded either.
It probably should be, but you have to wonder if they will contradict our world cup referee... Really? Almost every red card is appealed already, how will it change anything?
Well, he swung his arm, he made contact, the guy rolling around on the floor made the appeal more worth while if you ask me.
I'm not even sure you can call that a swing, and he only made contact with Chico's hair. Even if it had made contact with his face I don't think it would have hurt half as much as he made out. I think it should be rescinded. But political factors may influence the decision.
I agree with that. If the referee was Robert Madley or the one we've got on Saturday (Pawson?) there would be a greater chance it would be rescinded. Sadly the PGMOL's and FA's top priority is to keep our "best" referee's reputation intact.
The assistant made the decision, Howard wasn't looking at it. Protecting our World Cup linesmen, posssibly. I'll still go for rescinded though. Hey Tom, pick the bones out of this one
I don't think it matters that he only contacted Flores' hair nor that Flores made the most of it. He swung his arm and you can tell from his facial expression he meant to. It wasn't just a natural movement of the arm so it was a red. Flores should be given retrospective for his reaction to it but there's no way that Carroll accidentally caught Flores. He meant it so it is red all day long.
Bloody hell! When I saw the first bit I was thinking the referee was too hasty with the penalty and red card, should have played advantage. But then I found out that offside had been given. So for me it should have been a penalty and red card as the striker wasn't active until he put the ball in the net.
Yeah I agree. Arguably the defender handball/header thing is deliberately playing the ball, so the goal could stand. But one thing that it isn't is offside.
Yeah the striker was never active until after the handball, and he wasn't offside after the defender played the ball, so I don't know how they reached that conclusion.
Totally agree...Carroll meant it. It wasn't a swipe that happened when Carroll was trying to get free. The initial annoying actions of Flores had finished, so it was afters. Fat Sam said they don't want to lose him for 3 matches, so they are appealing. Don't think WHU are that hopeful...just trying it on.
You're making a lot of assumptions here. Chico had just been climbing all over Carroll so he was off balance and may have extended his arm for that reason. Nobody knows if he really meant it, but if he had really intended to harm Chico I'd suggest he would have put a bit more effort into it. Maybe it was a yellow card for dangerous play (in that he put his arm in a position that may have harmed Chico), but not a red for me.
Don't really know where to post this, but Lovren's started doing some light running. Assume the machine he has around his waist is something to help aid recovery? http://instagram.com/p/j_psMVhtL7/
