but by acknowledging it was a foul, when you factor in that he was last man, then it's a red. only giving a yellow isn't an option by my understanding.
Absolutely. Doesn't matter where it is on the pitch, if you're the last man and you foul the player, it's a red.
Last man means nothing. It has to be the denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity. I don't know how that affects the conversation as I haven't seen the incident in question, but it is a difference in the terms of the rule.
Not true. "Last man" isn't in the rules despite people believing it is. The referee has to judge it as a goal scoring opportunity and near the halfway line it's hard to call it one. Yellow was the correct decision and consistent with similar calls we've seen this season.
Two on one with the one going to ground is a goal scoring opportunity every day of the week, even if it is at the halfway line.
"Mourinho: 'I keep saying Hazard has to keep improving & his feet on the ground but he's probably the best young player in the world" Mourinho's comments. While it is a bold claim, he's definitely improved this year. Some of the best defenders in the world (Kompany, Bruce etc) can't get near him.
This is also a very strange statement haha: "Mourinho: 'I didn't speak to the players before the game today, it was Billy the masseur who gave the team talk. I spoke at midday."
I thought that when he was at Lille. Even though it was Ligue 1, he was just so much better than the rest of the league.
Yep, was always a step above. Had Chelsea not won the champions league that year, he could have well gone anywhere else.
Great match that. The result makes the title race even more interesting for the neutral. Mourinho got his tactics spot on. Flip of a coin between Hazard & Matic for the MOTM. Both were top draw. Demichelis had a mare. With all those stars they have at Man City, why have they opted to play him there. Just goes to show, all that money and even they make rash purchases. Nastasic should've been off. Oscar was passed him and he brought him down, & it was a goal scoring opportunity. Cahill's recent performances will put him firmly into the England WC squad.
Agree with most of what's on this thread already but wanted to add, how good are Terry and Cahill? Seems ridiculous that England have got our best two centre halves playing together in a great partnership at club level yet we can't use them for England. Roy needs to talk Terry out of retirement for the summer. I don't care if it isn't cool to pick the 'same old' big names, they're still some of the best players. Terry should be leading England out in Brazil.
