Agree with most that the song is getting old now. But completely disagree that we should stop singing about Pompey altogether. I love the rivalry. Always will. I think we just need a decent song to sing instead of the drivel we have at present. Personally, I think we should plump for either Dame Vera Lynn's "We'll Meet Again", or The Beatles "Hello Goodbye" Both are easy enough for the terrace hordes, and only need a little tweaking (if any) to make relevant (ie; about the blue few).
"We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when...." well, that sort of already seems appropriate; no tweaking needed
I kind of wish we would stop having song threads. I read them all the time, but the truth is it's practically impossible for thousands of people to spontaneously start singing the same song without it being basic and simple. Unless a really big group of you makes one up, gets drunk and starts singing it in the northam/away day then you have no chance
I'll admit to you that I inwardly groan when I see a newest signing getting a Song For... thread. When we signed Osvaldo I almost tensed up waiting for the inevitable Song for Dani. Complete waste of time unless someone is seriously going to use the best lines as inspiration to think up a new chant in the stands along with 30-40 other people. If I thought there was a cat in hell's chance of something happening I'd positively encourage it. I can see Daniel waving goodbye..!
How about some twerking instead? It's already sung in that respect. I've heard it several times back in the 90's, both by our fans and others.
I guess you could say the same about anything on a forum. Why do we all suggest our preferred line-ups for each game? It's not like any of us is actually going to choose the team is it? There's a lot of people who read these threads. You never know, one day one of those people might see something they like, begin singing it in a pub, and it catches on from there. Or, someone might transfer the suggestion to another forum, where the Northam singers 'hang out', and they will take it from there. Who knows?!
I had completely forgotten about Pompey. I thought they had gone out of business. What are they up to these days only you don't hear much about them in the media do you?
I guess the main difference is having to get your Fathers gun, instead of just get your gun. I do remember seeing Westwood singing the Pompey version of this, many years ago pissed out of his head as usual, on the old North stand terrace. No-one joined in, we just used to watch and laugh at him.
Who am I kidding, we're total **** and our current manager is a mixture of Paul Hart and Steve Cotteril in one terrifying combination *sob*
