I know at this stage no-one can Possibly hope to tell, If this year may ultimately End our Premier League spell, But throughout all, I believe even When things don´t go well, That there will be three teams worse off come May Some wishful thinking possibly But I do still believe, That sometime between now and then The pressure will relieve, And if it does, and then a touch Of fortune we receive, Then there will be three teams worse off come May And I know for some that will still Count as a wretched year, Having to pin our hopes upon Just keeping ourselves clear, But if that´s what it takes to retain Our position here, Then let there be three teams worse off come May And although I don´t advocate Whatever it might take, To ensure that next year we are Still eating Premier cake, We all know sadly, financially How much there´s at stake, If there could be three teams worse off come May And if that should sound cynical That´s how the game´s become, Big business now, where years ago People still had some fun, And the priority was not Hoping not to get done, Or pray to see three teams worse off come May For it is clear that success is Measured in £.s.d Only, which means the Premier League Is the only place to be, And until that is sorted out And wealth´s spread evenly, All hope to see three teams worse off come May. I realise it´s difficult to stay optimistic after idiotically chucking away a lead on Saturday, but ´fraid I can´t be any other way.
You and me both RBF though it does get me into trouble on the boards! I simply cannot understand the "We are doomed" hollerer's, there is still so much to play for! I'm certainly not going to throw in the towel just yet!
Speaking for myself Dave, if I didn´t go into every weekend feeling optimistic, then there wouldn´t be any point supporting ´em, simple as that. Considering I´ve been doing it since 1959, I think I can safely say that we´ve seen far, far, far worse times than these, at the moment.
I have seen the turning of the tides over the last 4 months or so. Most people were wanting to give CH more time and gradually it has got worse results and playing style wise and it is now to the point where it is pretty much just you 2 that still believe in CH.
I suppose we should just give up. I mean, some fans have already written the clubs obituary, havenât they? Letâs ignore the fact weâve beaten Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton in the last 18 months or survived two years in the Premier League under two very different managers, despite being pre-season favourites to go down each time (and we were 4th faves this season by the way - some have already forgotten that). Seriously, anything can happen in football. So why give up? Why do some fans find giving up so acceptable? I cannot abide people who just give up! Norwich City are not doomed - theyâre not even close to being doomed, so why so quick to lay on the gloom in such unhealthy doses? Is it all to do with the dislike of the current manager or is it something deeper? Are people just fed up with the fact weâve hit a ceiling and canât really get any better very quickly? Certainly things could be much better but they could be a hundred times worse. We sit 15th in the Premier League, one of the best, most difficult and tightly contested divisions in the world. Weâve no god-given right to be playing in this league yet we fought hard through adversity and earned our place to play here and continue to earn that right every season we survive. Not that youâd know it reading and listening to the defeatist views of so many of our fans - youâd think we are on the verge of dropping out of the football league altogether. People can moan about style as much as they want but that has to be put to one side now. Moaning and whinging will only work against ourselves so unless you actually want us to go down its time to back those in charge for as long as they are at the helm. I wrote a piece a couple of weeks ago saying that Hughton now has next-to-no chance of surviving long term because heâll never win around enough fans. But while he is in charge he needs and deserves backing because he is key to us surviving. Whether you agree with him being here or not - he IS here. Itâs time for the home fans to stop creating the appalling, poisonous home atmosphere. It feels at any time as though weâre 5 minutes away from having a bloody riot at a pantomime.Itâs embarrassing and more importantly hugely damaging. Itâs not been the season any of us had hoped for (hoped being the operative word, not âexpectedâ as it seems some did) and we are in a dogfight until May. However all is not lost - we have 14 games left and are not in the drop zone, nor have we been for some time. Problem is, and Iâm not the only one to think this, but Iâve had the feeling for quite a while that a number of fans would quite like the captain of our ship to surge straight into every possible iceburg in sight and for us to sink, not because they think its more fun in the Championship or because we might win more games or the football might somehow be better (have you seen how **** the football is down there this year?), but because they can say âI told you soâ. Pathetic. I refuse to believe any fan of this football club felt weâd never find ourselves in a scrap for survival again at some point. So guess what, weâre in one and have been all season. We might be next season too, and the season after that. Time for some to act like football supporters instead of customers moaning because they donât like the toaster they bought from John Lewis. Support the players - all of them, whether you rate them or not. And support the manager, no matter who is in charge, even if youâve completely lost your marbles and would rather Neil f**king Adams was in charge. Just support everyone at the club that we all claim we âsupportâ. The bigger the games the better. It's exciting, nerve-wracking. Oh, two things fans have been moaning about not having... no mid-table boredom for us. No. It's going to be tough but bring it on. Embrace the challenge! OTBC
I have had many disagreements with you in the past Supers but on this I agree with you 100%. I heard someone say a couple of games ago that they wanted Hull to beat us so that Hughton would get the sack. When I pointed out that if we did it would probably result in us going down he replied ' don't care as long as they sack Hughton'. It is mainly a question of expectation. As other oldies on here have pointed out we have seen a lot worse than this in the mid 50's and again in the mid 60's when we were in lower leagues - the big difference being that at those times we expected f*** all and that is what we got. I thought we would go down last year and the year before but was delighted when proven wrong. Even I thought we would do better this year and thought we would finish about 5th from bottom but other people were getting carried away and expecting wonderful results presumably on the back of the money we spent - completely overlooking that what we spent in total was about half many Clubs spend on one player. Yes, you may be disappointed but we are a small fish in a big pond and have no God given right to be there. Whilst we are up there we will struggle to compete and eventually we will come back down. If it's this year - tough ****!!! At least we will be in a strong financial position and can look forward to the future. In the meantime enjoy and hope for the best - we are not down yet and remember - if you don't enjoy watching the likes of Man City and Arsenal you will struggle enjoying the likes of Bournemouth.
I've come back after saying I'll not be back till the end of the season (i'm rubbish really), Your post sums everything up, you would think anyone with more than a few brain cells would be able to recognise what you are saying as the bleedin obvious, but they can't, so really what is the point is reading endless ****e.
Absolutely chaps, these last three posts sum it all up perfectly for me and I'm even prepared to go as far as to say that anyone who disagrees is a Grade A bell-end. There, that's my hat in the ring
Well, it looks like more than 2 people still haven't given up, doesn't it! Thank Heaven for this glimpse of sanity and realism.
i thought it was the keyboard warriors who wanted us to lose, clearly not. pathetic. for those who go regularly to carrow road, do you think the club could be doing more to encourage those behind the team and manager, plus any neutrals, to make more noise than the grumblers and get the atmosphere going? palace seem to have some really noisy fans, but then they are in their first season.
Surely everyone who spends their hard earned on watching their team has the right to moan and grumble if they so wish? isn't it called democracy? The armchair fans have no right to moan or grumble in my opinion.
Count me in if this is a meeting of the fair minded! Still positive about avoiding relegation, still positive about Hughton, completely dismayed by our fans. Still if you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs...!
There are 10 teams in exactly the same boat and this wont be decided until the last day in the last minute of the football season...
In fairness you are right being above Ipswich should certainly not be used as a measure of success Feels so longs since the last Derby game now, actually miss them.
I have to say I think the bloated, self-important and patronising rant from Pyjamas is missing the entire point. Leaving aside whether or not looking for short-term pain for long term gain is an acceptable stance (the hoping to lose so Hughton gets the sack), the main point here is so-called negativity. The matter for discussion here is about taking into account all the information available, using it to make an informed view of the future and then making a sensible decision. This is pretty standard business practice, and indeed we all do it in our day to day lives. The fact that some fans are concluding that the future is bleak is based on their assessment of the information available to them - and to some extent on their attitude to risk. Equally, those that conclude the future is rosy is also based on their assessment of the information available to them - and again, to some extent on their attitude to risk. The big mistake being made, in my view, is that people's informed conclusion is being wrongly translated into either 'you aren't a true supporter then' or 'you have yellow tinted glasses on' depending on what conclusion you come to. Put it another way, I would like to see everyone's opinion being respected and accepted. On that note, I would like to put it on record that I fully support Pyjamas' right to be patronising and self-important.
