^^^ Which would heavily reduce the wage bill as well, allowing our bracket to be 'amended' slightly <ok>

Assuming for a moment this is genuine (which it probably isn't), the offer is on the low side but I really can't see him going for more than say 30 million. 40 million is way over the top. He is a good player yes, but not in Fabregas' class who is probably valued around the 35-40 million bracket.

Alonso went for around 30 million and is probably similar level to modric.

I think this would amount to us 'testing the water' as was said above and to turn Modric's head so that maybe he 'forced' a move. Any way, offering low so you have somewhere to go is all part of the negotiation process. Levi will say 40 and relaistically it'll be somewhere in the middle.

Still think he will be a spurs player come august though.

LM does not deserve CL football because the team in which he played did not play well enough(including him) to get into the CL. The only ones who deserve CL football are those who ended up in the top 4. We deserve Europa because that's how good or bad we were last season. He's a good player yes but there are other good players not in the CL. Does Torres "deserve" it because he plays for Chelsea even though he was rubbish for them last season?

Personally i feel Modric will be sold for just under £30m - around £27m. He wants champions league football

Last season Modric missed a golden opportunity to win the match against Arsenal but it didn't happen. We failed in our effort for the CL and as a member of the team he must take his share of the blame for the failure. I'm not against Modric at all but all aspects must be looked at and he wasn't perfect last season. He is imo being overly praised a bit which supporters do with favourites. I'm sorry if this offends,it is not meant to and is meant as constructive criticism. In some matches he was excellent but overall he along with the team did not quite cut it.

Don't make me laugh. So Defoe and Modric were 'hidden gems' when you bought them were they?? Modric was a well sought after international by time you got him. Hardly a hidden gem. He has progressed during his time at spurs so it is inevitable that bigger / clubs in a better position to challenge for titles will be looking at him.

If big clubs are making bids for your players it just shows how good they must be. Same as when you tried to get the likes of charlie adam and phil neville in Jan.

Nope, us trying to get those two was a signal of a complete lack of ambition

100 years of Chelsea. Is it really only 100? It seems soooo much longer. I think you are missing the point. The point is, what is Modric worth to Spurs? It has been clearly stated by both chairman and manager that he is not for sale. Also, we would have to consider what message that that would send to our other top players if we freely sold Modric. Therefore, and recognising that everything has a price, he would only ever be sold into a ridiculous bid. My feeling is that you Chavs would have to at least double the reported bid just to get Levy to even consider it.

Yeah, they're trying to drive down the price by offering such a meagre sum.

I think the race starts now, expect there to be lots of bad blood, accusations and dirty tactics :(

That same ridiculous, alleged bid that was confirmed by his agent then?

and clutching desperately to any story? They are direct quotes from Fabregas himself.

If you're going to accuse someone of wumming - at least make sure you've got an argument that has got legs first eh?

Modric will be leaving in my opinion. I would love for him to come out and say he wants to stay at Spurs as long as he is wanted by the club but I think he won't be able to resist Chelsea or Man Utd.

Let's get the best price possible and make sure we get a replacement in asap.

I personally think we will get around £30million for him and then pay about £10million for Parker, I just hope all this is done long before the season starts.

You surely aren't suggesting that Parker is a replacement for Modders... are you???????

Wow a little defensive are we dear?!?!? Firstly, don't assume every fan of a successful club is a glory hunter. Secondly, when you win more than a league cup every 10 years or so then you will soon pick up some plastic fans too. Blight of the modern game i'm afraid.

Chelsea are called chelsea becuase fulham was already around when we formed. We are literally a stones throw from Chelsea district so we took that name. Other options were Kensington f.c or London f.c. Chelsea was formed to move into an existing stadium. Did you actually want the history lesson or was you just moving off subject in a completely unnecessary and bitter rant??!?!

Ignoring the pointless dig....I don't think he'll be sold unless he puts in a transfer request ala Torres. That then wouldn;t send out a bad message as you will just be shipping out a bad egg. The ball is in Modric's court on this one. But rest assured, if he wants to stay he will, if he wants to leave, he will.

Don't get the spuds started on history lessons. There was a long running thread on BBC 606 where they all denied the existence of an older established Hotspur club that formed before THFC - that was until I contacted the official Tottenham Hotspur historian who confirmed it. Seems that history is not their strong point <ok>
