We never even looked at him coming back. Pochettino was asked if he could bring him back if needed. He replied by saying he didn't know if we could and hasn't even looked into it. So looks like Pochettino doesn't see him as part of our team.
Well I'll trust Pochy's judgement on that. Seems such a young age to write a player off, especially when we only Signed him last season. Makes you wonder who signed him.

It does seem odd considering what a good pre-season he had, and that he was praised by everyone for being a great character and so on, that he is now apparently being frozen out. He's clearly a decent player and with our striking shortage I'm sure we could find some sort of use for him. Perhaps he's just not able to be recalled and Pochettino doesn't want to be drawn into answering why we would loan out a potentially useful player with no option to bring him back, but it does seem strange he would just say he doesn't know.
I don't know that Mayuka is being "written off." We should be okay without Mayuka. In the meantime, he's getting more minutes with Sochaux than he would here. If he does well, we'll find a place for him next year. If not, then maybe we sell.
