The FA and League Cup Thread

Not a fan of playground bullies, is all.

 

There seems to be some decent ones there, but more than a fair share of WUMs and thoroughly dislikable characters too. If you look at the board it does seem the preserve of childish insults in the main, with some particularly choice stuff from about 1972 where the greatest insult they can muster is that somebody else is of a different sexual proclivity to them.

Bit depressing really.

 

I remember when their board and the Hull board went mental. What was that over? London riots? I can't remember exactly.

 

All teams and regions have their fair share of idiots lads, don't let them drag you down to their level they have more experience in the gutter. Good luck for the season and may the best team get through!

 

Who is it, or am I being totally blind?


PS Most are ok, of course. Sensible chat = good. Anyway this game isn't for ages.

 

Did anyone see MP's reaction when asked on Saints Player how he felt about getting Sunderland in the Cup ?

He grinned and said ( in English) " Very happy , very happy , we want this game "

 

A few games in the FA Cup Today

Sheffield FC won 10 - 0 against Liverpool Feds

Plymouth won 6-1 against Exeter in a Devon derby (or a south coast derby if you will, but not the proper south coast derby!)!

While Chichester City defeated Enfield Town 6-0, apparently the furthest Chichester have gotten in the cup, so good for them.

 

Getting tickets for the Sunderland game Tuesday, hope we put in a strong team!

 

15th. My weekend on call. We will play a strong team, but I'm very worried about injuries. Especially to one of the chosen 3.

 

Don't worry...pretty sure that MP will put out his strongest team. It is getting a bit more serious now and is played on a Saturday and not midweek.

 

Fulham v Sheffield utd on itv4 if anyone wants to watch.

The fan who blubbed while pouring out his protests at Fulham is there again. Clearly a committed fan. On the basis of his side's performance, he needs committing.

30 mins ET at least, and Sheff Utd look more likely to come up with a goal. I suspect the extra 30 minutes of play will sort out who's fit and who isn't. Could be as simple as that, as to who wins this one.

As I thought, Sheff Utd head in 1-0 with a couple of minutes to go of ET.

 

So, busy day in the FA Cup today!

The most exciting news is that Portsmouth defeated Lewes 3-0 to go into the 4th round!

West Ham defeat Basildon on penalties after it finished 3-3 at extra time

Durham defeat Chichester 4-0, I'm guessing Chichester made a substantial loss on that fixture....

Coventry defeated Stoke 3-1

Copsewood won 3-2 against Larkhall Athletic

Doncaster won 2-0 against Aston Villa

Sunderland tonked Oxford 5-1

I know we'll come to this in more detail in a few days but I think we really could make a fist of the cup this year. If you read the last paragraph from the BBC pre-match preview vs. Hull:

'Mauricio Pochettino's side start nine points off sixth, and thirteen off the drop zone. An odd situation to be in, especially this season. Might the Saints be that modern rarity - a club to risk taking a real tilt at the FA Cup in what remains of the campaign?'

Let's face it, bar some cock-up or an incredible run it's very likely we will finish either 8th or 9th. We HAVE to take the most of this opportunity with the cup. With the greatest of respect to Sunderland we can (and I ultimately believe we should) beat them. What then? There would be several beatable teams in the QF's, and I fancy a trip to Wembley...

Yes perhaps I'm being premature, but the magic of the cup is alive in me once more.

 

Oh. Sunderland postponed so get a nice rest ahead our match. Not happy about this! Although perhaps disruption and late changes could work in our favour?
