I see most players particularly new ones getting stick....how does Lennon avoid it, waste of a 'front 6' shirt. Two anonymous games in a row, one v a top side, one not, both ****e. Has good spells in games, but when can you honestly say he's had a really good one? Injured a lot, can't head, doesn't want set pieces, can't score, isn't a versatile forward, no strength, fairly inept on the left. So what are we left with on his best day, pacy scampering past defenders, and even then we've all got our fingers crossed the final ball isn't a waste. He's added absolutely nothing to his game from the day we signed him...no wonder not one team has ever bid for him, anyone ever asked themselves that? That cat should disturb a few pigeons!
And I don't suppose anyone was moaning when Lennon crossed for Crouch to score away to AC Milan. Players like Lennon have played their part in big games but of course they will have poor games but the difference is no one labels them world class. New players like Verts and Lloris have good periods then get labelled world class so fans set them up to be critised.
Lennon's best recent game for us was the 3-0 stroll against Stoke. I'm not convinced that it's a coincidence that Naughton played behind him in that fixture.
I agree. I was focused on Soldado and Sherwood who I think were the worst performers, I didn't even have a pop at Eriksen after the game
At what? certainly isn't goal scoring, Lennon is a one trick pony, its about time people woke up and saw that. Sig has more elements to his game, not many granted, but I wouldn't compare as both are different. We can all quote one good thing even the crappiest of players has done, poor answer Boss! ....other than that you agree then!
I wouldn't say that, no. Lennon has been poor in the last couple of games, but the team's been horribly unbalanced.
Notso, I could point out Verts can't head the ball, gets done for pace and is slow to react. I like the fact it's the 'crappy' players that got us into the champions league and performed in group stages, makes it even sweeter when they come under attack!!
There is nothing in my description of Lennon that isn't true, and none of it is borne from the last two performances, they were just the catalyst for my initial post. Of course he'll have a good'ish game here n there, thats not what I'm saying. I just don't think he offers enough now. I'd have Townsend evry time, not much in it final ball wise, but AT has time to work on that but has goals in him, the notable difference is he has the confidence to shoot, Lennon bottles it whenever possible.
Townsend's probably a better fit for Walker, but his decision making was appalling at the start of the season, when he chose to shoot at virtually every opportunity, regardless of what was on. Lennon's far better defensively and would probably have a better partnership with Naughton, who doesn't crowd the wing as much.
I'm not JV's biggest fan either....good counter! ......why hasn't he ran riot and got us into the CL since then! You also confirm my point, probably his best season in.....how many? where's the consistancy since or before for that matter?
Lennons best form was probably last year when him and Defoe carried the team before Bale found form, They where the the building blocks behind our record points total but unfortunately the manager let us down and never got us top four But as for no club bidding for Lennon. No club ever bid for Ledley King. He's in Good company and both injury prone.
I agree, I did say AT has time to improve, whereas AL should be peaking, he's 27 in April. The latter was touched on recently, but who wants Naughton starting over Walker. There's better wingers getting slated at other clubs for whatever reasons, don't know why people are so precious over him. Even after his dazzling CL run, advertising his talents on the biggest stage....any bids from CL clubs, never mind top clubs after that?....no. For a club notorious for selling our tapped up best players, he's obviously not one of them!
Walker's form has been erratic, so it might be good to see him forced to fight for his place. Naughton will probably start in the Europa, but I doubt Lennon will.
Come on Boss, Ledds??? , do you want another barrel to scrape!, who'd buy him once they looked at his medical records, he had an unfixable knee joint condition. Lennon is another Owen...Michael or Hargreaves!... just anatomically weak. Some human beings are just made that way.
I was jesting but Lennon is injury prone. He's rarely had a full season, generally stop start and considering how much we paid for him, he's given great service to the club so that's why he's a favourite with the fans. New players need to prove their worth, and look back to when Lennon first arrived, same with Defoe, been passionate and fan favourites from the start of their time with us.
Lennon pound for pound has been a great value buy. I think he cost 1 million. For me more miss that hit , 1 good game in 3 , little goal threat, poor final ball.
Finally I'm getting somewhere, when AL arrived we were a midtable dreamer, delighted if we got UEFA, things and expectancy has changed, we are a little bit better now than we were then, therefore the JD's and AL's that were good enough then....are they now? Thats the Q I'm asking, and my opinion is no. That said, I fully agree with passion & loyalty and fans appreciating that. To be loyal though, is to stay where you are when enticed away....who came in for either and tested their loyalty?
Goal return is is poor but alot of the time his quick chance of pace and the mayhem he causes results in a goal but the stats don't give an assist. Andros Townsend is hailed as a superstar with a better goal threat yet he scored 1 in 14 during his purple patch and generally his final ball was lacking. Plus not a patch on Lennon for team work or quick short passing so the alternative isn't currently any better overall.
