I couldnt get my head around how the owner accepted (as lets face it hed have been informed!) and then wouldnt sign at the end

All I can think of is this release clause allowed him to speak with us, but they didnt have to accept

Maybe they would have to accept if we were CL club or something

Dont think Ayre iis to blame, that said we have had all month but that isnt up to him i wouldnt have thought

If salah was 1st choice why not bid more cash? Maybe to not get into a bidding was with the Chavs or maybe we were going to sign someone else (another position) and thought Salahh could do the job for the wing

After he fell through we then went for Yanka who would cost more

  2. If the owner is not involved in the nitty-gritty stuff, it would be up to the staff he employs. If we met the release clause those staff would have been obliged to accept it. The owner just refuse to sanction the deal later on.

With our committee being 'science' driven - "Edwards the stats guy" being a full member in it - I am sure we're rigid and "scientific" in assigning player values and bid ranges. So, if you add this fact to the fact that we're not as generous with our transfer kitties as 4-5 other clubs in our league to begin with - you get turgid a$$ negotiations.

All I hope that from now on is that we don't go as often for growth players (ala Aspas, Alberto, Borini, Illori, Suso, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc), but shift more of our transfer budget towards value players who'll be more expensive at the cost of adding less players to our squad. Can we f**ing do that??

Transfer strategy is with the transfer committee imo, not with Henry - the latter being there to 1) set the transfer budget 2) Spank the committee for bad buys.

    Couple of things:

There were a few rumours about the structure of the deal. The owner didn't really want to sell, we forced the issue by meeting the buyout clause BUT the owner may of insisted on the entire figure up front. Cash is king, installments save LFC a shed load of money and cash up front could of been more that we were prepared to pay.

Add to that, that the Ukraine is not Europe. It's employment laws and contractual agreements are different to Europes, Perhaps it's not so easy to force a release clause over there.

All speculation. I don't even think he was the right player for us so am more bothered about the farcical nature of the entire window than the failure to buy a player.

However, that said, we need to move on. The witch hunt can begin if we don't get fourth.

Can Ayre be blamed for the Kono transfer? No.

Can he be blamed for our whole negotiation strategy? Yes IMO. We spent 2-3 month negotiating for Salah - it cannot take that long to conclude a deal?

Ayre is fantastic at commercial deals. I feel is growing into the MD role but we need a person who negotiate football deals, someone with knowledge and commands respect. Galliani was the master of this.

  7. Sorry, but that is based on the word of his agent. Equally, the Ukrainian club have said we didn't even make a bid.

IMO, we scouted the lad and possibly made a enquiry but we wouldn't have been negotiating for that long.

the thing is like i said. if i can google "salah rumours december" and find that cheslea were mentioned on 1st december then i a afraid the thought that we were sole negoitators before christmas is flawed.

I don't know the truth but i find it hard to credit chelsea merely rocked up and threw whatever basel wanted at them.

I simply don't know. All i know is someone from LFC said salah chose chavland.

We simply don't, in my opinion, know enough.

I came onto this thread on 1st feb cos i started this trhead after the summer and SOMEONE DECIDED TO BUMP IT UP. I defended my point on here.

So I think you know what, mods close this thread as the views on each side are entrenched and it is pointless to debate further.

Ffs we mostly base our info from sources in their papers or the web, today's transfer system is firmly in the grip of agents of players, clubs and managers that for a fee release false info to hacks that is ultimately in the agents favour financially.

Can't be arsed looking for it but there's a league table of the fees payed by clubs to agents per season and as I remember we're in a champs league place on it.<grr>

The failure to sign him apparently falls into Zone 2. I'm just not sure exactly what the structure of the two deals was. We wouldn't agree to what their owner wanted. That's how I understand it.

You don't know and I don't know and LFC aren't going to say. So where does that get us?

I think RHC needs to ring his mate and specifically ask of he heard anything about the nature of the break down and if really the word around the camp is ayre is a bollox or not.

    that'd help.
