Why is pardew mumbling on about changing style? We lost Cabaye but have Ben arfa and marv - similar enough players. His real issue is fcking shola but he won't admit it. That said, nothing will change and I am not sure if I care.

I agree with you. The main problem yesterday was playing Ameobi - mostly the fact that as soon as we have a 'target man' on the pitch Pardew obviously turns into Sam Allardyce.

    BYBO1tqIEAAOHUS.jpg

That and the fact that our players seem to get rattled by teams that press them hard.

I think I might be inclined to put Sissoko back on the right, HBA on the left until Gouffran is fit and play Marv in the number 10 role. I think Marv is probably our most naturally suited player for this position now whilst Ben Arfa certainly looks far more dangerous when out on a wing... Despite being very disappointed with Ben Arfa yesterday I'm still not ready to give up on either of them. De Jong upfront because even half fit his movement looked good at times - he certainly looks better than Shola.

    Wow...
I think a scout's job has evolved massively.
It's not just a case of saying 'he looks canny'... and then signing him.
Carr has the contacts to close deals quickly as we saw with Cabaye- you would have thought the player of the year would have been away to Man Utd and the rest if they knew of his buyout... but Carr did and that's the point I think DT is making (if MA provides the funds). We have also openly admitted that Carr goes OTT researching players attitudes, disciplinary records and family to ensure they are right mentally. Contrast this with the SAm Allardyce approach of watching youtube clips.

You could draw a list of all of the players in Ligue 1 and at some point they will have been linked with some club somewhere.... that would make every scout in Europe who then goes to get them for his club pretty useless by your benchmark becasue they were 'known'.

The fact remains that, players of Debuchy's, Tiote's, Anita's and Sissoko's ilk are at our club and not a West Ham, Fulham etc... for several reasons including Carr's knowledge of markets and contracts, approach to recruitment, MA's ability to pay up front (a rareity these days) and the fact that, insanely we are still a draw to some players (although see my vicious circle thread for a caveat).

All in all our recruitment over the past 5 years has been openly admired by peers and media alike and as such, as head scout Carr takes the credit.

It's just a shame now that our policy seems to have started to change direction.... only the summer will tell us more on that score.

Poyet is a far superior tactician. that's why he keeps beating Pardew.. simples. He has always had much inferior players but delivers every time.

    This! <laugh>

I do have to admit that the few I'd not already heard of before we signed them (such as Amalfitano, Abeid and to a degree Marveaux, although I had seen him once or twice), have flopped. The rest were established players in some way - just not necessarily well known over here. But, I guess it's still important to identify which 'established' players have the potential to improve and make it in the Prem. Overall, I think Carr has done extremely well with the resources he has available and the targets he needs to aim for to meet the club's transfer fee policy.

Are you ******ed? Carr didn't watch one match and ask for them to be signed on a whim like you idiots seem to have done over the years. The guy looks at these players for years, studies for consistency, development and so on. I don't see where you're talking about all these players linked to Arsenal, Chelsea etc. Most players that are brought have been linked by papers to other teams before, in some way or another. If you're judging on this basis that would make most, if not all good scouting irrelevant in your eyes.

Thanks to the 2 lads for the genuine replies, I asked a genuine question & filled it out with points, ACS, you make a fair point, it may well be that it's his contacts that got deals over the line, so fair play on that score.

    Obaoutofthetoon09.

You are typical of the 'fans' who can do nowt but have a bite at SUnderland, I asked a question, all you did was name call, slate us, and reiterate my OWN POINT that a 'super scout' would find UNKNOWN players.

For you, and only you 0-3, 2-1, 0-3.

All the best the rest of you lads <ok>

Yes, the last 3 you thick ****, the one's that count most.

You, my lad, are the worst poster on this board, I rarely comment on the NUFC board, despite many of the lads being sound, but I read, and all you EVER wanna do is slate us, rather than support your own.

You are a ****ing mug mate, and whichever way you look at it, losing 3-0 at home yesterday is the ONLY relevant result in the present between us, as it's current season.

Oh, wait, the 2-1 is relevant too...

Apologies to the good NUFC lads, but this twat is thick as ****, and is not a supporter, he's a hater, the kind of sad **** that gets our great region laughed at on the news.

Check posting history, and see how many times the dopey **** brings SAFC up when irrelevant, also, your name says 'Tops Dog' you ****ing idiot. Do you kill dogs, or are you so dimwitted you misunderstand 'top dogs'?

Now **** right off, you are going on ignore.

It would have been silly of me to put you immediately on ignore, knowing you'd come back with some horse **** anti-SAFC cack to prove my point.

I assumed you were jobless as you certainly lack the intelligence to hold down a decent job, but I guess minimum wage employers will give anyone a chance.

Oh, by the way, you have also misspelled George FOREMAN in the signature, so bravo again for that, bright spark.

Judging by a couple messages & rep comments I just got (5 in total from NUFC fans), seems I have indeed found the lad on your board that everyone wishes would **** off ;)

You know me Somb, I'm a Sunderland supporter, die hard, but always fair on NUFC, lads like this **** haven't the intelligence to understand it.

    Hey ho.

    Bullshit.

Plain & simple, I was reading your board when I got in at 5am this morning, and I kept seeing you pop up 'Sunderland this, Sunderland that' every thread, relevant or not.

You saw a '**** side' beat you yesterday? Funny EVERY Mag mate that I have, and I have MANY, who was at the game complimented us, albeit begrudgingly, on the massive improvement and movement of the side.

We are currently, form wise, 5th in the league, over last 10 games, & have been receiving praise from all sides.

I don't expect a blind idiot like yourself to accept that, but in that instance, simple don't mention SAFC, you only look bitter when you do.

Every now & then, you just have to accept your own failings, I rarely if ever compare ourselves to you, it's like 2 people having a ****ty Ford Fiesta, and one saying there's is boss cos it's got 2 exhausts.

Now, shall we leave it? Cos I'm missing Dragons Den here.
