Just thought I would make a thread after the goal machine finally reached the milestone today. Fabulous player for us, a club legend. I doff my cap to you sir. You will not see a £1m spent better anywhere else.
I saw a good quip earlier. "They say £1m doesn't buy you much these days. How about a JPT, two promotions and 100 league goals?"
You know what, when I hear him speak now, all I hear is a rich Hampshire burr, not his long forgotten scouse twang. He's one of us and always will be.
Love his modesty. On Player, he was praised for his pass for Jay's goal and he said that it was Jay that made his pass look good by putting it in the net. Legend.
Rickie: £10,000 per goal Osvaldo: £5,000,000 per goal Sent from my RM-914_eu_euro1_337 using Tapatalk
Matt scored 101 PL goals, Rickie has only scored 100 PL goals across all leagues! Across all leagues (pre-PL), Matt has 161 league goals and 209 in total.
When I reached my late 20s I never thought i would ever have any new sporting heroes. I mean can anyone younger than you be a sporting idol? Rickie has quashed that thought. Well done Rickie on another career milestone
When he scored for England he thanked Baines for delivering him the corner. So I'm not having that, Rickie.
It's just his modesty again, and deflecting praise to others. When interviewed on MOTD post match, he was asked the question about the three players going to Brazil, and he said that if one goes, then they'll all be made up for that one player, but they're concentrating on SFC. That sums him up. He's an absolute star, in my view, and he epitomises the very best attitude I want to see in a Southampton player. Of course, they all follow his example. They're a very supportive bunch.
Can't stop watching today's goals in which Rickie had a hand in all. I'm ranking them in order, the 2nd, 3rd and then 1st. The 2nd goal is sheer poetry in football. There is not a pass that is not perfectly placed or weighted. Clyne features heavily, yet the genius comes from Davis and Rodriguez. Plus, Rickie finishes like only he can. The 3rd goal shows Rickie's fantastic passing ability. He's never been the out-an-out striker that pundits have praised him of being in the past, but have realised there's more to his game since, and that pass showed his vision and ability. Crikey, what a pass, it almost overshadows Jay's great finish, which was clipped perfectly into the far corner. For me, it's nearly the best goal, but that 2nd strike was just perfection. The first goal, Rickie passes a perfectly weighted pass to Adam who, quite simply, is the most two footed player I've seen since MLT, and perhaps he's even more evenly balanced than Matty. A beautiful finish. In many other games it would be the best goal. One of the nice things that happened today was that I was keeping tabs on the game through my phone, and I had a customer who was also a Saints fan but depending on me to update him on the match. Every time I looked at the BBC Football website it would say 0-0. Then it said 0-3, and we practically danced together we were so happy. Didn't know him from a bar of soap, but SFC brings certain Hampshire people together. A very nice day
