Our inability to offer Joe a wage he could get elsewhere, as well as actual decent football for the next 7 months probably made the decision much easier than it should be.
Little bit shocked he didn't hold out til summer and move on a free so he can see if they are in the epl next season. Palace must have offered him a fortune. Hope it works out for him and he doesn't end up in the championship again
It took him a long time for the Ledley deal to go through from when the offer was accepted, bet his agent kept him back as was looking for interest from other clubs or a better deal from Palace and security that they are serious about wanting to stay up.
Pity we didn't get money fir Sammy... He needs to be benched...get others playing n get midfield n up front sorted
There is no point playing sammy any more unless we need to. Disappointing window, we haven't set ourselves up for the qualifiers at all.
i would have preferred ledley to stay but is he our best player and worthy of earning the highest wages? the writing was on the wall when we brought the norwegian in. He was never going to sign the new contract in my opinion and we were never gonna better the offer he had already. i fail to believe we got anything over a million for him. disappointed that we didn't get rid of sammi
Im not sure he really wanted to stay. He gave it the usual talk about loving the club etc but you could see he was set for a move.
I'm not sure the club were committed to trying to keep him. Folk are saying the contract offered was 40% less than what he was on.
if that is the case it is a massive kick in the baws. the club would know he was never going to sign. they should have sold him last summer when they would have got a few million for him
Those rumours are usually started by the nutters who just can't accept that a player wanted to leave the club!! As Chuck said if that was true we would have known he wouldnt have accepted and sold him ages ago. Fact is he was a free transfer, a real coup for the club at the time and was on around £20k. After 18 months he declared he would be happy to be a Celt for life, it then became apparent to him we were not going to offer him a massive new contract which he was angling for so he did not sign whatever contract was offered. I would put my house on the new deal being atleast equal to what he was on and fairly certain it was an increase in wages but not as much an increase as he wanted. Cardiff were sniffing round once they got promoted but we were reluctant to sell with the qualifiers and they spunked all their money elsewhere. I am sure he was holding out hope they would come back in for him in January but new manager saw pay to that and so he has left elsewhere on more money, new challenge. Good luck to him and his new club. I am sure he will do well and move to bigger club with a good season or two
I never fully understood the massive love for Joe Ledley. A good, solid player no doubt, but nothing more. Great value and a good 3.5 years so thanks and we move on. I certainly don't see him as anywhere near indispensable. It seems this norwegian fella was brought in with an eye on Joe leaving and he has plenty of time to settle in before the qualifiers. Let's see what he's made of.
If he had abit more pace he could be a top, top player. He was a good all-around kinda player, bought abit of stability to the midfield when Brown went chasing the ball, rarely gave the ball away and always seemed to be in the right place in the box to get on the end of the things. The new guy looked good in the development game, always looking for the ball and kept things moving and more times than not the ball was a forward pass. I just worry the league will not suit his play, lets hope he is given time to learn the game here before being declared a dud after 2 games!!
Team played better with him there IMO. Kind of player you maybe dont miss until he is not there.....which is a concern
Ps see kallstrom is supposed to have got injured in first arsenal trsining session. Out for 3 months.....wose luck that boerigter!
