Diego has signed for Atletico Madrid on loan. Astori is still at Cagliari.

Plenty of time to soften him up for the summer then...

Maybe he'll be back someday then.

Has he played for every club in the North East now? Maybe just Hartlepool left?

Thanks DTLW, Saw Diego to Atletico mooted this morning & Astori linked with Galatasary. I wonder if Diego will still be an option in the summer(if indeed he was at all). Expect he'll be after a big wage if he is on a free.

don't we get something like 750k per league position? if we were to slip eight places and stay up that's what? £6m

in a key position where we are weak in depth a player could in a worst case scenario pay for himself.

I don't think we've got the same luxury in goal or centre back as we do with left back and up front of calling on a targett or gallagher.

Liverpool fail to agree fee with Dinipro for Konoplyanka.

Having said that I've never heard of him, not even on FIFA career mode level! ;)

That goes with Kennedy Bakircioglu as one of the most perplexing names i've seen mentioned today.

From loaning in Neal Trotman from Preston, to loaning out Dani Osvaldo to Juventus.

Southampton Football Club, 2009 to 2014.

To slip eight places we'd have to go just above the relegation zone, so around 40 points. So, from the remaining 15 games we'd have to gain only 8 points. We still have the same squad (bar Osvaldo) as we had on Thursday (The squad that has somehow managed to get us to ninth with roughly a point and a half per game)

Are you seriously suggesting that we could suddenly start getting a point from every other game simply as a result of not signing someone yesterday? Really?

And some of our fans bemoan our "wasted signing" of Osvaldo!!

    worst case scenario. admittedly

    turns out it's nearer £7m

even if we were only to have got a loan in how many league positions would cover the outlay?

we've still got the same squad we had before we signed osvaldo and presumably decided we needed to sign osvaldo

two senior strikers and one talented kid in the squad. that's not even considering the dearth of suitable cover in goal or CB

we're fundamentally paper thin in 5 or more out of 11 positions on the pitch and we've got eleventy midfielders

Lots of youth though. I don't think we have a lot to lose this season and I see it as a good opportunity to give the young lads a good go. Also it means no panic signings and a very exciting summer window.

We have four senior centre backs & two senior goalkeepers. We were unfortunate to lose two keepers at the same time. Now you can argue about the merits of these players being good enough for where we want to be, but all of them are at least respectable players who can perform at premier league level.

Agree we're short upfront and if either Jay or Adam end up out long term then thats a problem, but it's easier to blood youngsters in forward positions.

mostly it's disappointing for me that in a season we've nothing to play for in the league and all but safe, this is what we're going to have to rely on for the cup.

Is Turnbull ready to step up if needed? He doesn't seem to have risen above either Jos or Maya in the pecking order. Do we have anyone else?
