It matters not what modern document you've got in your hand. I believe mo farah has a British passport but he's still a Somalian. You were born in on the British Isles to English and Irish parents. Therefore you are British.
Haha that old chestnut,British Isles is a geographical term. Not sure of were you stand who's British but Viv Anderson was a quintessential English man and a icon to many and me looking in from Ireland,a legend.
The English, Irish, Scots and Welsh are British. Viv Anderson was born to West Indian parents so is therefore not British. It matters not where he was born.
Perhaps Mick should create a separate page where these neo nazis can congregate and wallow in their hatred of humanity.
Anyone can be British. It is a mongrel term for those who settle on this island. To be English is a different matter, but I shall not bore you with the details. Phil Taylor Ian Botham Gazza
Ponders, Ponders, Ponders. Oh dear. Where shall I start... The British are indigenous to these islands, we have been here for millennia. Yes we have seen people arrive here over the years, people who have contributed to the creation of what we call Britain. But all that ended with the Windrush. Almost everyone living here prior to 1947, and their descendants are probably British. Anyone arriving here post 1947, and their offspring is an immigrant, except those of British stock who are returning home. Anyone who disagrees is racist and is being disrespectful to our great island race.
I shall accept your post with the largest pinch of salt I can muster. Your knowledge of this island is fantastical at best, ignorant at worst. Britain and British are generic terms for those who choose to dwell on this island. Britain is a mish-mash of races, creeds, religions and genders, for which I have no allegiance. My allegiance rests squarely with England, or Wessex to be specific. I am, by definition, an Angle; my forefathers arrived in this country during the fifth century and have remained ever since. We are a people with specific heritage and founding, and we are the true heirs to the title of being English, yet we accept quite readily that we stole land from the ancient Britons. Perhaps you favour the British handle because you are unsure of your ancestry. There is nothing wrong with that, for history and ancestry do become blurred through the ages, but we who know our lineage with certainty will always shed the tags of Britain and British with confident ease. I suggest you look into the matter further before trying to educate me.
I'll reserve my judgement as to who is the greatest British sportsperson till between 21:50 and 23:00 on Sunday July 13 2014
Ponders. You seem to have been taken in by the loony left lie that we British are all mongrels. I know my lineage very well, in fact, my family name is derived from that of one of the first Anglo-Saxon kings. I stand by what I wrote. Almost everyone living here prior to 1947, and their descendants, is/was British. Almost anyone arriving here after that, and their children and grandchildren, and so on, is an immigrant.
