How has the fact there were injuries got anything to do with them stepping up to the plate? Yes, Kenny only picked them because we were short, but they could have performed poorly and been replaced by shuffling more experienced players/the formation around. When called upon, they performed well. Ergo, they 'stepped up to the plate'.

He's looking at those positions because we don't want to have two 17/18 years old lads as the only players there. It's all about squad depth rather than simply 'you're not good enough'.

That all being said, I do agree with your original point about what 20m could buy as an alternative to a young English player. We all know that British players come at a premium, and with Henderson and Carroll, they were young players with a senior international cap (which seems to bump the valuation irrespective of it being just the one each), had 5 years to run on their contracts, were local lads brought up through the youth set up, AND were regulars in the starting 11 of a PL team.

Add all that together, and you get an inflated fee.

What Kenny is looking for is a strong British core. He'll add foreign talent once he has his base set up.

EDIT: just noticed that you've now said you're point was about Kenny bringing youth through, when it actually wasn't your original point.

He could've kept Konchesky and played him at left back instead of Robinson, or palyed Poulsen in midfield, but he used Spearing instead. He also could've played Carragher at right back instead of Flanagan and sticked Kyrgiakos at centre back, but he didn't.

Class is a bit much. I think it's the complete lack of desire in the team pre-kenny that makes them seem like a deeper breathe of fresh air when they came in. The youngsters at United don't get such praise in the media while doing it at the highest level as they slot into the team better. Similar to the best referee's being the one's you don't notice.

And who the hell are you?

If you have no idea about the number and quality of our youngsters then I'd keep very stum if I were you - your about to be slaughtered!

The referee's job is to not over-influence the game. Keep it flowing and all that. The absolute opposite applies to a footballer. So no, not similar at all.

You're not meant to notice the officials- if you don't notice a player, what's he doing on the pitch?

To me it smacks of Kenny doing right by the fans. Konchesky and Poulsen were both Hodgson signings and will never be accepted at Anfield. And with the size of their contracts, he is probably trying to push them towards the door at the behest of the owners.

Not having that at all. Fabio, Rafael, Hernandez and Smalling have been ****ed about at various parts of the season by the media.

No he isn't he's playing the players he feels will do a better job for Liverpool in that certain position. Let's look at an example, Kelly had just kept Malouda and Cole quiet against Chelsea, then played decently away at Wigan and was one of the best defenders, then Hodgson drops him for Stoke away saying he needed "experienced" players, we then got tonked 2 nil by Stoke and had less possession than them!!!

Kenny played Flanagan instead of Carragher at right back against Man City when he hadn't played even a minute previously for the first team, and he passed with flying colours. Kenny is doing right by the club, the results prove this.

Name any manager that takes over a club and is totally satisfied with what the previous manager left behind?

Fair point, I was going to use the same adage about a drummer in a band, but thought I could make it more applicable, I was wrong.

Out of interest Mootpoint, which team do you support? It must be LFC, because all of your posts since joining have been on this board...
I'm not complaining, it's just that the first board I posted on here was this one because I support Liverpool. That's the reason I joined, to talk about them.
    You?

Come on then. Show me how the United youngsters have 'slotted into the team better'. Then try and show me how many United youngsters are cuasing as much talk as the Liverpool youngsters.
