Faye, Gardner (Ricardo, not Anthony!!) and Nolan. I think with that calibre of player they'll be a good bet for the top 2. ****ter. We've got McKenna and Adebola ( likely)(

Yes, and what brilliant financial nous from the West Ham board:

In dire straits money-wise so they sign Kevin Nolan for a 7-figure sum on £55,000 per week. <doh>

55 grand a week aint speculating in the championship, thats more like taking all your weeks wages on a Friday to a casino and putting it on red in roulette and hoping you will double your money

Gold and Sullivan are really wealthy, so they must chucking a bit of money at it to get back up at the first attempt.

And be left without a club in a year? That's bloody rediculous.

They've committed to a four year deal too. If that "speculation" doesn't come off, West Ham will be royally ****ed.

I'd have said the same, but whilst the signings of Ricardo Gardner and Abdoulaye Faye appear good ones at first, they're both 32.

Big Sam's just resigning his old players! I bet Kevin Davies is next.

Yeah but Percy what about Leeds and Forrest and Leicester and Southampton and a couple of others that dropped down to the third tier after gambling like that and none of them are any closer than us to getting back to the prem.
3 years in division 3 for teams like Forest and Leeds because of over spending Southampton went into administration and Luton have dissapeared off the coupon you got to have a bit of sanity to your signings and payroll

Yes, but if you're too conservative you'll end up nowhere, there's teams who haven't spent stupid amounts of money once they've come down, where are they now?

It's about taking risks, West Ham are taking a **** off huge risk, but if it pays off they'll end up in the Premiership, if it doesn't they could end up in League 1. We're being conservative and probably finish mid table. There's obviously a scale of risk/reward and I think it's about finding a balance. West Ham are taking too bigger risks, we're not taking enough.

I haven't read the previous posts, just this one, but ffs

No, it's not about taking risks. It's about building up a squad with reasonable money and working your way up. It's not "first to the top wins it". You can compare it with gambling...

If you have 1000 quid and wanna double them, sure, you can go "all in" and hope for the best. But your odds will be better if you build the stack up slow but steady. And if you win? Well, the risk of you being to cocky and losing it all sooner or later is pretty big.

Random comparishment (spelling?) but you get the deal... (or do you?)

You're still taking risks though, just smaller ones. As I said, it's about getting the balance right.

Yeah, it is. But I have no rush reaching the Premier League if we can't establish ourselves, which the economic risk may aggravate.
