I feel slightly strange that I didn't really feel anything watching him die. I don't quite know why he chose too though, he didn't seem in too much pain towards the end - so what's the rush?

What is there to say? Grim stuff but it's their life to throw away if they so wish.

Do you think there should be a place like the one in Switzerland available in Britain?

If someone wants to open one, sure.

I also support free provision of clawhammers to the old and infirm though, just in case they want to end it all on the cheap. <ok>

Why don't they just jump of a bridge of something if they want to die so much? Him wife could have easily drove him to so high bridge somewhere and helped him over the rail.

SHould we not all have the choice to end the pain? Not just for ourselves but those that watch us deterioate and suffer? Having recently watched my father in law lose his battle with cancer i know that as a proud man he would have hated having other people wipe his backside for him, hated the tears from the family as he wasted away, hated the humilation of being a strong buisness man to a man reliant on others as he died. Had he had the choice to end the suffering before it got that bad i have no doubt he would have took it, would it have made our pain any less definatley. The loss was bad watching the suffering horrible. We have the freedom of choice in everything except the final act, surely its time to allow people who are terminaly ill to have the choice when the end comes.

Thanks for sharing your experience - sounds absolutely horrific. I think you're right, we all should have the freedom to choose our ending.
