You'd like to think so but I think with Baldini at the helm with transfers, chances are he's looking abroad for any potential signings. I only think we need a LB in fairness, though can't see us spending big on the area, if at all.
BBC reporting a deal has been made for Carlton Cole on a short term contract until end of season. Berbatov is off to Monaco.
That explains why he made a big show of handing his Spurs shirt to a supporter in the Paxton at the end of the match on Wednesday night, and of applauding the fans all round. He clearly knew already that he was going (which is what we said at the time). I understand his decision, but I'm sorry to see him go.
SSN scrolling along the bottom that TS has confirmed no signings today...didn't say no-one was leaving today though.
We give players away to help other clubs on transfer day, we don't get any players in to strengthen us. Sounds fair, to me.
We really don't know much about Baldini so I don't know why you say that. I don't think we need to buy a left back, Sherwood wanted Fryers signed so we might as well give him a chance if Rose gets injured.
Agree. Also, every man and his dog can see that we desperately need at least another striker, preferably one that can score goals.
Some tit has just tweeted this on the BBC Live Transfer Day page:- Jimafee: "Anyone remember the last player Chelsea signed whose name began with a Z and ended in an A? He wasn't too shabby." Yes, that's right. Because every player whose name begins with a Z and ends with an A is a dead cert to be as good as Zola was! Twat!
Baldini's track record has included signings mainly based from teams abroad, both with us and Roma. It's a general and easy observation to make when you consider players like Pjanic, Marquinhos, Castan, Lamela and Jedvaj were signed in his Roma spell and then all of our new boys came from abroad too. Fryers isn't good enough yet, he can "do a job" but that's not what we're looking for. Rose isn't up to the standard required in my opinion, he wouldn't get into any of the top 9 sides in the Prem and if we were able to bring in a good quality LB, I'd love us to take up the opportunity.
I'm not going to bother listing the players he's signed from Serie A clubs for Roma, they're there if you want to look them up. Your assertion was that Baldini probably wouldn't be looking at signing Premier League players, based on the business we've done this summer and his time at Roma but clearly at Roma that wasn't the case. We all know Capoue, Soldado and Eriksen were all scouted long before Baldini had anything to do with our club so to act like our summer's deals were Baldini's doing is a bit of a stretch. Maybe it was all Baldini and he took it upon himself to pick out all 7 of those players, maybe Levy's thinking was that AVB would do better with more continental players, maybe anything. As I've said, I don't think we know enough to make any opinions on Baldini. What we do know about Baldini, from Spurcat, is that he wants players to be scouted over a long period and that he was getting our transfer deals over the line in the summer. If I was going to make a guess, I'd say that Baldini wasn't brought in to direct our big spending in the summer but moreso to better organise our off the field activities like scouting, negotiating transfers, manager/coach recruitment and youth development. I doubt Baldini was charging around the World only signing from his own list of targets. Just today Sherwood said no deals get done unless Baldini, Levy and he all agree. It's important to remember DoF isn't a glorified scout with a cheque book, he's responsible for a lot of things and is not the only person with a say on transfers.
I've had a look on Wikipedia and from what I can tell, most of Roma's team is a fairly newly assembled one with the likes of Totti, De Rossi and Taddei aside, the majority of the squad have come from abroad or have joined since Baldini came to us. I don't remember Capoue or Soldado being scouted/ linked with us too long ago, that's not saying you're wrong I'm just saying I genuinely don't remember. I don't think it's all down to Baldini in terms of the players we've signed and I know he's not solely responsible for all transfers (though I would presume he has a big say), I'm just stating an observation in that from what I've seen/ read of him, he tends to be involved in bringing more players from abroad than he does from the home nation when in his DoF role. It's not a dig at him for the record, his track record of players is extremely impressive and even if some are struggling for us presently, most will agree we still see a good future for them and were excited at their initial signings. I just feel that with him as a DoF, he'll recommend/ scout more foreign talents than domestic ones.
Non-Spurs related but have it look at this, quality from Crawley Town: https://twitter.com/crawleytown/status/429265453748207616/photo/1/large
