West Ham are on the verge of signing midfielder Kevin Nolan from Newcastle. The Magpies skipper is currently having a medical at West Ham, Sky Sports reports. The Hammers had a bid for Nolan rejected last week, but Newcastle have now accepted an improved offer for the player and given him permission to hold talks at Upton Park. Newcastle were in a contract row with Nolan and revealed earlier this month that he had rejected a new deal. The stumbling block was rumoured to be the length of the contract. New West Ham boss Sam Allardyce put Nolan high on his list of transfer priorities. He has worked with the player extensively at both Bolton and during his time at Newcastle. Nolan was one of the Magpies' star performers last term, scoring 12 goals from midfield in the Premier League.
Gutted to be honest. Not the best CM for the Premier League but he was a top goal scorer and he'll be fantastic in the Championship again. Can't understand why he's going to you guys, no offence. Great captain, great bloke. Good luck to him.
He's coming to us because we are offering him the 5 year contract he wanted at Toon, plus Fat Sam is a big pull for him.
No offence ment but i dont think he will have the legs for the premier league in two years time nevermind 5. This is the main reason we would not offer the 5 year deal he was after. Would have been nice to have him next season because he still has alot to offer and im sad to see him go. Good luck next season.
This. He'll score lots for you next season and probably drag you back to the PL. We shouldn't be selling him, he still has an important role to play. He's got probably two good seasons left in him.
I thought West Ham were in the financial proverbial? How can they afford really big players like Nolan?
Gutted tobse him go butbfeel sorry for hammers fans having fat Sam as manager... Hope you guys come back up but Hughton would have been the best choice...
why? we had Zola and Grant, and they were crap, as to Allardyces hoofball reputation, I remember watching HIS Bolton side, and they didn't play much hoofball, when Sam 'the ball' Lee started managing them they did, but Allardyces Bolton (how annoying they're both called Sam) had Okocha, Djorkaeff and Campo in it, and they weren't hoofers. Newcastle were all over the shop when he went there, and now you're moaning that HIS players are leaving. All good teams are built on a solid defence, he tried to sort that out first, as any decent manager would, but you wouldn't give him time. If you'd kept him you probably wouldn't have been demoted.
£55k a week for 5 yrs seems a bit high. I bet he'll want a rise if you get promoted too! Still West Ham have plenty of money.
