I find this conversation interesting as I can see both schools of thought. It is better to have more clubs lower in the table and more clubs in the so-called "mini-league," there is no doubt about that. However, over the long haul where it is unknown which clubs are going to pull away comfortably from the drop zone and which will remain in the mini-league, it is also better than two total point be awarded than three. Considering no point for any other side in the mini-league is a good thing, I would think that the two total points awarded rather than three is the lesser to two evils. Regardless, I hope the lads can capture 4 points or so in the upcoming two matches and keep the drop zone at bay.
The more teams in the mini league, the tighter it gets and for longer. Last thing we need is some middle of the table clubs on the beach and playing our rivals near the end of the season, we need em all drawing and nervy as hell.
All this trying to group teams together is the kind of thought that had someone on here saying it would be good if Palace beat Cardiff when they played them because Palace were dead and buried and sure to be going down. Until it's mathematical that we finish above a team we should always want the lowest placed team in a game to lose. I'd rather be 17th with a 10 point gap below us than 13th with a 4 point gap to safety.
Spurs fan in peace. I'm mostly hoping the wheels of justice don't operate Saturday, because you're due one against us. It's Sherwood's first league loss, so we're on somewhat uncharted ground. Since he took over, we've certainly done better against teams below us in the table, though with an odd looking approach: look like you're being overwhelmed at first, then grab a goal on the counter. The only variation has been against the strongest teams, where we look like we're being overwhelmed at first, and then are actually overwhelmed. Anyway, I'm rooting hard for City to beat the drop, mostly because I'm a big Huddlestone fan, and think he should be the linchpin of the England squad. Start him and the fastest players (Sturridge, Lennon, Sterling maybe, Walcott if healthy), and England will have an entertaining team for once.
