Not that I really want to encourage any 'Lambert nostalgia', but I'd forgotten about this old article (couldn't remember what website/blog it was on). I stumbled across it again today. A very well written, enjoyable read for anyone with a little bit of time on their hands. http://inbedwithmaradona.com/journal/2012/6/20/the-ten-game-definition-of-paul-lambert.html The website itself is definitely one to bookmark. Plenty of absorbing articles from every aspect of world football.
Heady times and all pivotal games. The other one that I would add was Norwich City 2-1 Southend United. This may not stick in the mind quite as much but it was a game where we trailed 0-1 with only a few minutes remaining and the stunning comback at the death kept up our momentum and helped to propel us into the top slots. We are in a totally different scenario now where every year will fundamentally be about survival which in itself is not such a colourful story. Part of the gloss that was PL took advantage of the fact that we were a bigger fish in a smaller pond whereas in the here and now it is very different.
Absolutely chap, this is something that people don't seem to take into account enough if you ask me. I remember that Southend game as well, absolutely brilliant that as - good old Oli Johnson! But I bet nobody comments on the fact that we were 1-0 down at home to Southen until the dying moments, that in itself is pretty shocking, I bet we'd have never been in that situation if Hootun was in charge
