This is why a deal for berbatov is supposedly agreed, if you believe the rumours, as they've essentially found their replacement. Well Daniel, we're currently on a goal difference of -1. With that in mind, we don't deserve and wont get a top 4 finish. if a top 4 finish is what you want, do something about it. Otherwise it's deja vu.
Roo, it's not the lack of strikers that's caused the goal difference, that was Avb and his team setup. We have been scoring since Sherwood took over and I'll back us to carry on being productive up top. Arsenal only have Giroud and Bendtner. Liverpool only have Suarez and Sturridge. We have Adebayor and Soldado. Sure it be great if we had another top striker but if the manager plays attacking football then goals will come as we have Eriksen chipping in, Lamela has goals in him if he settles and we need to work on getting goals from midfield. That's how the top teams get success, goals from midfield and wingers and that's more of a concern then signing another striker. If we can get Eriksen and Lamela chipping in regularly then we won't need another striker.
We don't necessarily have a lack of strikers, boss. That's not what I was getting at. But the ones we do have are either not scoring, inconsistent, under perform regularly, or are inexperienced. You're right though, we do need more goals from midfield and hopefully that'll come. Defensively we're not looking particularly great either. I don't have much confidence in the Dawson chiriches partnership. The sooner we get vertonghen back, the better.
Sherwood has to get Lamela and Soldado on the pitch more. I would rather that then signing new players but you're right about the defence. Under AVB we where generally good defensively but poor attacking. Under Sherwood we're suspect in defence but more relaxed and productive going forward. It's difficult to set the team up to be impressive in both areas unless you have two great centre backs to organise the defence, plus we need Sandro in their protecting and JV. I'll admit I do think JV isn't that great defensively but he's still our best option.
With Sherwood seeming like he's not keen on defensive midfielders, is there any guarantee that sandro will play?! One of the first names on the team sheet for me.
That has been crossing my mind re Sandro but I'm giving Sherwood the benefit of the doubt as Sandro isn't fit yet so I'm sure he will pick him.
The problem is our centre backs, they all seem to lack pace and it was highlighted on MoTD,also their positioning is suspect, that they can work on,but not pace
Boss. Did you seriously compare Suarez and Sturridge with Adebayor and Soldado?!? Really? If I were a Liverpool fan, I'd be LOLing at that. The problem we have now is a lack of spine. Once again. Same as when we were beaten 5-1 by Man City a few seasons back. Vertongen and Kaboul would be the favourable CB pairing if fully fit as both have a degree of pace. (IMHO) Paulinho was really making a difference in the middle of the park and in my humble opinion, he and Sandro would make the most effective CM pairing as Paulinho is a step up from Dembele. Sandro and Dembele were running the midfield early last season. I think Sandro and Paulinho could do better. If these four players got a consistent run of games, an up top combination of Ade and Eriksen, Ade and Soldado or Ade and Holtby could bear fruit with Lennon or Lamela / Chadli or Townsend on the wings. If Ade gets injured. We are relying on Soldado who nobody is afraid of. This is why I'm puzzled by the comparison. We definitely need another striker who is capable of top scorer form for the season. Are you going to wait until Liverpool and Arsenal invest in another striker before acknowledging that we need one?
If you're going to reply, try not to get excited and run away with a point as where have I compared them in terms of quality? we're talking about numbers not ability, I didn't think anyone would be daft enough to think that, but there you go my friend, its early and you may not be that sharp in the morning As for If Ade gets injured, if this, if that, what do you expect. us to have backup for every "if" scenario? its not realistic and a change in formation is something that would happen. We also have Defoe until he leaves and we also have attacking signings from the summer which haven't been given their chance. as for Shall we pop to the transfer supermarket and pick one of these off the shelf? as they really out there in the January sales. these top quality strikers for sale are everywhere, so shouldn't be that difficult to sign one
But going back to Berbatov, the Fulham manager has just confirmed there has been no bids for Berbatov, no Interest so the twitter rumours of any deal being arranged are BS, as Levy wouldn't be risking going behind Fulhams back for a striker like Berbatov, a player he had the chance to sign from Utd but pulled out of.
If Sandro doesn't play when fit I'll start a riot. Think a new LB is definitely a priority now, even if not a pen I'm just not been impressed with Rose overall lately.
We need a new LB, forget about Rose and Ekotto, we need a quality left back in the summer. If we go out and try and sign someone now it will be a panic buy and a flop.
Nope. He's joined AC Milan on loan from Fulham. On loan from QPR... How desperate must they be this season? They're absolutely miles off the pace, so pretty desperate, I guess. Will somebody please buy that prick so that we can get our 40% sell-on fee?
We're being linked with a move for Nani from Man Utd. Total waste of talent and a poor attitude, in my opinion. Yep, he's Taarabt. Southampton's manager has stated in his press conference that Holtby's a good signing for their next opponents Fulham. Bit of a strange one, as neither club involved has confirmed any deal and the Cottagers have since denied that anything's been done. Hmm...
@samcunningham: Mauricio Pochettino just inadvertently announced that Fulham have signed Lewis Holtby from Tottenham. #thfc #ffc
